Part 35 - Work Lies

After I left Peter for the night I headed home and quickly got into bed. I kept looking at Liam's texts debating on whether or not to respond. I finally gave up and put my phone away and fell asleep.

I woke up to my alarm clock buzzing in my ear. I turned it off and rolled out of bed. I got dressed in a grey big sweatshirt and leggings. I brushed my hair and put on concealer and mascara.

I walked into the kitchen. I guess my mom still wasn't home. I walked out of the house quickly grabbing a granola bar before leaving.

The ride to school wasn't bad. Except lots of people were on the subway this morning.

I walked into school and went through the sea of kids to get to my locker. I found Liam standing by my locker waiting for me.

He looked worried but his expression changed when he saw me.

"I've been worried about you all night. You didn't text me back," He exclaimed.

"Yeah well, now we're even," I mumbled. I shoved books into my locker avoiding eye contact.

"Even? For what?"

I looked at him, "You scared me last night when you ditched me. You left me alone to be caught by Spider-Man!"

"I said I'm sorry!" He yelled.

"I could have been arrested, do you know that?" I looked him right in the eye, "Did that ever occur to you? I guess not because you didn't care to come back and try to help me,"

Liam just looks at me. I hear footsteps approach behind me.

"Hey," I hear Peter's voice say.

I sigh and turn around, "Hi," I give him a little side hug.

"Wait? You're back together with Peter?" Liam asks.

I grow silent, "Yeah."

Liam runs his hands through his hair, "So even after I told you how I feel about you, you still go running back to Peter?"

"Liam, I-"

"I cared about you, and I accepted your powers when he wouldn't," He motioned towards Peter.

"Liam, I'm sorry but, I've always loved Peter, and I always will,"

Liam ran his hands through his hair, "I don't even know what to say," he breathed.

"Are you staying at Midtown?" I asked.

"I was going to, for you," he trailed off for a minute, "But now there's no point, so I'll probably go into hiding or something because I'm sure the police are on my backs,"

I broke away from Peter and gave Liam a quick hug, "I'm going to miss you, even if you were a criminal,"

"Just a question, why didn't you call the cops on me?" He questioned.

I looked at him, "Because I care about you too. Even if you were a dangerous criminal, you were a great friend, and I don't get friends in trouble."

Liam smiled and looked from me to Peter, he took a deep breath, "Well, I hope we can see each other again," 

I nodded, "Bye," he said as he headed towards the exit of the school.

Peter reached down and grabbed my hand and held it as I watched Liam turn back to look at me and give me a small smile, before walking out of Midtown School of Science and Technology forever.

The final bell rang at 2:45 and I rushed out of school with Peter by my side.

Peter looked at me as we were walking to my house, "What?" I asked.
