Chapter 20. Wolf's bane

{Location: Moon break Valley} (Morro's POV)

I wake up to see that I'm in a small cave. The ground is cold against my back...more so because of my missing clothes. I look down to see that someone has taken everything but my cup over my soft spot off. Which is now growing black fur. Awesome. Just awesome. I look back up to see a young woman dressed in nothing but a scarp that hangs over her head and drips down to cover her private parts. Which has reddish fur as well. Other then that, she looks ok. Her skin is fair, her eyes are light green with bags under them like she had a leader's burden and her hair is dull red. There is a strange thing on her the center of her chest, it was a full circle with three slash marks on it. It was a darker shade than the rest of her skin and resembled a birthmark.

"You are awake." She observes as I get on my feet.

I lick my lips, "Where am I? Who are you? Where are my friends?" I then look for an escape but the cave extends behind me and travels deeper into the earth. "Why am I almost naked?!"

She smiles like Jay when he was making a solid effort to connect with me, but something else is hidden that smile, "Calm down young pup."

I freeze as a drugged memory plays in my mind, "You just kidnapped me."

"More like rescued you." She sighs like it's normal to have a mostly naked man be scared, "I am sure that you have many questions."

"Where are my clothes?" I jump to my feet, ready to fight my way out if I need to.

The woman points to a small fire at the cave's mouth. What's left of my ninja gi is turning to ash in a black fire pit. "For where we are now, no human clothes are needed."

"Well, I don't want to stay here." I glare menacingly. Which is much easier now with my dark half back in me. "I have responsibilities. I have a life."

"A human life." The woman takes the scarp around her head and lowers it to behind her neck and over her shoulders. On her head is two large red wolf ears...like mine. "But we are not human."

"We?"

Behind the women, about six other people with everything from ears to tails to fur covering their private parts appear like a welcoming party. "This is our pack." The woman smiles, showing wolf fangs at her accomplishment, "I'm Artemis. The Alpha of the pack."

"I don't understand." I didn't have time to think about other possible people also bitten while chasing down Zara and looking for the lost child. "Where am I?"

A little girl, who resembles Kit but with black hair smiles like this is normal for an almost naked man to ask where he was, "A safe place."

Artemis leads me out of the cave and into the sunshine, "Go. Continue your jobs. We have much to do before tonight." The rest of the 'pack' disperses and travels to different corners. I know that these people just kidnapped me, but I have to give them points on their outdoor choice. In front of me is a large meadow surrounded by trees. Across the way is a small lake with a half made windmill next to it, everywhere else is covered with tall grass and small flowers. It's peaceful, "Officially, this is just a random meadow on a map. To us, we call it Moonbreak valley."

"Nice name." I look around for signs of a trail...maybe it could lead me to a village where I can contact my friends. "Now which way to the nearest phone?"

"You don't understand. We shouldn't return to the human world." Artemis walks around to the high grass, "Everyone here has been chased away from their friends and family because of what we really are."

"My friends aren't like that." I'm half tempted to jump on my dragon now and just fly to the temple. But some primal belonging holds me here, "They help me."
