"Hey geek! What are you reading?" Tyler yelled at me. He was the school bully and constantly messed with me. It was study hall and he was sitting by his friends.
I knew I shouldn't answer. But being me I answered with, "Something much too advanced for someone like you to understand."
"Pfft doubt it. Give me that," he said yanking it out of my hands.
"The Fault In Our Stars? Sounds lame," Tyler said with a sly smile.
"To people that can't quite get a handle on society, yes. But for everyone else it's quite a wonderful book," I said. I had read the same book at least a hundred times. I could never get sick of it.
"Was that a challenge Wren? Are you saying that I can't handle society? Because if that is indeed what you are saying I can and will prove you wrong!" Tyler yelled then he stomped back over to his friends. Reverse psychology worked on everyone like Tyler.
I smiled to myself. What a loser. I have played that trick on him for eleven years now and he still doesn't even know what psychology means.
The bell rang for everyone to go home. I grabbed all of my stuff and headed to my locker. I took all the stuff that I thought I needed and shoved it into my back pack then shut my locker and walked out to the parking lot.
It was snowing lightly. The white puffy snow had several kids tearing through it, throwing snowballs at each other. I smiled.
"Hey Wren!" a voice yelled. I turned and saw it was Dana, my best friend.
"Hey Da-" I started but was cut off from a snowball hitting me in the face. As I wiped the snow off my face I heard Dana laughing hysterically.
I scooped up a fresh handful of snow and packed it into a ball. I launched it at Dana. Her laughing stopped and I saw her spitting out snow.
"That's not fair! You got it in my mouth!" Dana yelled walking the rest of the distance to me. Her curly red hair practically glowed against the white snow. Her bright blue eyes seemed to swallow up all the light.
I laughed. She was such a dope. "So tonight is the meeting," I said hoping Dana would finish the sentence for me.
"Yeah I know. God this is going to suck," Dana said. I nodded in agreement.
I looked at my watch. 4 o'clock. Crap I was late again.
"Hey I have to go, I'll see you tonight?" I said. Dana nodded and I turned and walked toward my truck. I started it and drove to my house. My parents weren't home but that was normal.
I walked up the pathway and into the house. It was more like a mansion but I called it a house. I didn't believe that stuff in your life should be named differently because of money. I walked up to the third floor and into my room. It was an absurdly large room with a sliding glass door that led onto my balcony. From there I could see the lake my parents owned and the town. I could also get into our roof from there. I had always liked high places and my parents made sure that I could get into high places.
I flopped down on my bed and waited. I thought for sure he would already be here. He was never late.
Twenty minutes later I heard the sliding door to the balcony open.
"It's about time Ashton! Don't you ever pay attention during meetings?" I asked stubbornly.
"Of course I do I just got kind of hung up," Ashton said looking around. He had light brown hair and bright blue eyes like me. His hair wasn't long, but it wasn't short either. He was the same age as me, 17.
"When you say hung up what do you mean?" I asked.
"You don't have to know everything," Ashton said sitting in the swirly chair by my computer.
"Uh... yes I do," I said trying to get an answer of some kind out of him.
"You will find out at the meeting so be patient for once!" Ashton said with a chuckle.
"Whatever. How did you get up here?" I asked slightly confused.
"I'm a ninja. That's the only thing I can say," Ashton said. He stood up from the chair and walked over to me.
"Really? Then show me," I said.
Ashton smiled and punched me playfully. "If I showed you I wouldn't be a ninja anymore now would I? I'll see you tonight," he said. Then he winked and walked out onto the balcony. He jumped off and was gone.
"Ninja. Whatever," I mumbled. Ashton's family was good friends with my family and we had known each other since we were two.
The meeting started when it got dark so I had a few hours to kill. I went downstairs and decided I was just going to sit in the living room and watch The Big Bang Theory. My life consisted of dumb meetings, tv shows, and messing around with Dana and Ashton. But life was about to get way more exciting and not in a good way.
