"Wonshik-ah, sweetness, come here, darling..." Mrs. Kim coughed out weakly, beckoning for her eleven year old son to come towards her.
The child walked towards her, clinging onto the sides of the rails. Looking at his mother expectantly, but also hesitant since he knew his mother didn't have much time.
She was so pale and weak and had already lost all the hair on her head but to Wonshik she was still the most strongest person ever. It took a lot of willpower to deal with lung cancer.
"I know this is sudden, but Mommy won't be here for long. When i go to sleep, could you be a good little boy and tell this to the doctor?" Mrs. Kim requested, smiling softly.
Wonshik nodded, feeling tears well up in his eyes.
"My heart. It's something we all consider valuable. In the room beside me, there's a boy who's in need of a heart, because his own won't work. Can you tell the doctors that Mommy wants to give her heart to this boy?" Mrs. Kim asked.
"Y-yes, Mommy..." Wonshik sobbed, tears streaming down his cheeks.
"That's my big boy. Mommy loves you so much. Remember that, Shikkie~..." He mother murmured, coughing harshly in between words, blood leaking from his mouth.
"I-I love you t-too, Mommy..." Wonshik stammered, clinging onto his mother desperately, sobbing loudly.
Mrs. Kim smiled gently, threading her fingers through Wonshik's auburn hair one final time before it went limp as she took her last breath, a whisper of "I love you most..." escaping her parted lips.
"M-Mommy...? Mommy! Wait! No no! Come back!" Wonshik cried desperately, shaking his mother's limp form.
The only thing that echoed painfully was the flatline of the heart monitor. He suddenly remembered his mother last request as doctors and nurses flooded into the room.
"Mister, M-Mommy said to give her heart to the boy in the room beside her.." He said, looking up at the doctor next to him.
The doctor looked a little startled at the sudden remark but then smiled softly, kneeling beside the boy.
"Did she now? That's very nice of your Mommy, sweetheart..." He smiled, ruffling Wonshik's hair.
"I'll tell the surgeons. We all say thank you to your mother for helping the boy. Would you like to see him?" The doctor asked, scooping Wonshik off his feet.
Wonshik nodded eagerly, the doctor's presence calming him, although the loss of his mother felt like a million glass shards shattering in him.
"Yes, Mister.."
"Call me Hakyeon hyung, love.." The doctor smiled at the young boy in his arms.
He led Wonshik to a room and opened the door slowly.
"His name is Taekwoon. He's fifteen years old. He has a very weak heart so be careful to not startle him." Hakyeon reminded, setting Wonshik on the chair beside the bed.
Wonshik couldn't help but gaze at the beauty in front of him.
The older boy's skin was a light shade of cream peach, contrasting with his ebony hair that fell across his eyes. He had long, black lashes that brushed softly against his chubby cheeks and a delicately arched nose. His lips were a gentle shade of rose petal pink, softly pursed in his slumber. He was ethereal, a sleeping beauty.
"Taekwoon-ah... Wake up, I bought you a friend..." Hakyeon whispered softly, threading his fingers through Taekwoon's soft hair.
The sleeping boy's eyes fluttered open softly, settling its gaze on Hakyeon. Wonshik had never seen a more beautiful shade of brown in his life. Taekwoon's coffee colored eyes seemed to hold all the stars in the sky.
"Hyung...?" Taekwoon called out softly, voice soft and pure, almost like a sweet melody on a piano.
"Yeah. It's me. I found someone who's willing to donate..." Hakyeon smiled, bumping his nose gently against Taekwoon's playfully.
Taekwoon giggled softly, ecstatic about the news, but obviously not able to express it since it would startle his weak state.
"This little boy's mother wanted to donate to you. I've bought him here to say hello.." Hakyeon went on, taking Wonshik to his side to face Taekwoon.
"Hi!~.." Wonshik whispered excitingly, setting his hands on the mattress carefully.
"Hi..." Taekwoon replied back shyly, offering the smaller a small smile.
"I'll let you two get to know each other..." Hakyeon smiled, standing up and silently leaving the room.
"Thank you for donating. It means a lot to me..." Taekwoon thanked sincerely, voice still soft and gentle.
"No problem. Mommy..... Went to sleep, so... She.... She..." Wonshik hiccuped, tears already gathering in his large chocolate colored eyes.
Taekwoon frowned sadly. His mother was the most important person in his entire life. She was always supportive with his decisions and tried to make him happy. He loved her unconditionally. He didn't know how it felt like to lose a part of your life but he knew it must feel horrible.
"No... Don't cry. Come here..." Taekwoon said, lifting the bedcovers to create a small space Wonshik could curl into.
"But Hakyeon hyung said-...." Wonshik started only to be cut off.
"He won't mind. Come on..." Taekwoon said, tugging Wonshik's little hand.
Wonshik scrambled onto the bed and curled against Taekwoon's chest. The fifteen year old let the covers fall around them comfortably, shielding them from the bitter cold.
Wonshik pressed his ear against Taekwoon's chest, listening to its weak beat. It calmed him strangely, sounding like a calm lullaby.
Both children basked in each other's company, feeling safe with the other.
Soon, they fell asleep among the warmth.Hakyeon returned from his appointment to find the most heartwarming sight he's ever seen.
Both boys were dreaming peacefully, Wonshik's head tucked underneath Taekwoon's chin while the older boy had a arm over Wonshik's waist protectively, holding the younger close to hm like he was his entire world.
He adjusted the sheets to cover them properly, leaning down to press a gentle kiss to each of their foreheads.
"Sleep well, boys...."

I loved writing this. I was listening to BTS piano instrumentals while writing this. I highly recommend listening to Spring Day Piano/Music Box Instrumental while writing.
It helps to set the tone perfectly. If you like, you could also listen to some other piano Instrumental of BTS while reading too!
