After the uncomfortable hangout at the mall, Luke and his sisters left to go home. No one was talking. There was silence. All they could hear was the engine of the car.
"I'm sorry," Luke started.
"For what?" Alicia asked him.
Luke sighed and was almost on the verge of letting his tears out. "I'm sorry for putting the three of you through that."
"We will only forgive you if you tell us who are those people and why are you hanging out with them," Caty said.
Luke was focusing on driving but he was thinking on how to answer Caty's question. "I-I-I can't tell you."
"Why not?" Sophia asked.
"I just can't," Luke said.
"Why can't you tell us?" Sophia asked.
"I can't, Sophia. Don't push it because you're starting to push it already," Luke said.
"We're family, Luke! We're suppose to tell each other everything! Why are you lying?!" Sophia yelled.
"WHY DID YOU THREE HIDE ABOUT SEEING JADA FOR THE PAST SIX MONTHS?!" Luke yelled back.
The girls felt like everything stopped. They exchanged glances with each other with wide eyes because they knew that they were caught, and Luke knew that he caught them. He pulled the car over at a gas station, and looked at his sisters.
"You girls think that I don't know anything. You three have been seeing Jada for the past six months and you didn't tell anyone, not even Aunt Janelle and Uncle Leo." Luke was starting to lecture his sisters.
"Luke, we--" Alicia began, but Luke stopped her.
"Not now, Alicia. Do you three even know how much Aunt Janelle, Leo, and Andre miss Jada? We all have been going crazy to find the sister who is older than the three of you and who is the second child of the entire Davenport family. Why did you guys do this?" Luke was now calm and looked at his sisters with sincerity.
"Luke, we had no choice," Caty said.
"What are you talking about?" Luke asked.
"I'll explain. Remember when we won the soccer game in Houston?" Luke nodded. "So, when we were at the airport, the three of us went to get food and we ran into someone. I recognized the beauty spot at the corner of Jada's right eyebrow because Aunt Janelle showed a picture of Jada when she was one year old and she had the beauty spot at the corner of her right eyebrow."
"You're right, she did," Luke thought.
"Exactly. But we weren't sure if she actually is Jada. So she also flew back home and we followed her for the past one week and confronted her knowing that she was Jada. She told us everything. She was kidnapped and taken to New York and stayed there till she was 12. When she was 12, she had to learn how to cook and clean, and she was sent from home to home in New York to clean their houses. She just came to Mission Creek seven months ago and stayed away from home to save us," Sophia explained.
"How can these people treat Jada like this?" Luke asked.
"I know. You don't even know how upset we were when Jada told us this. Jada told us that we can't tell anyone from home that she's in Mission Creek. Jada comes to this mall on a Saturday every two weeks, so we meet her during that time. She also told us that she stayed away from us because the person who kidnapped her is one of our parents' family enemies and he/she is taking a revenge on our family," Caty said.
"Who can the enemy be?" Luke asked.
"We don't know and she doesn't know either," Alicia said.
"By the way, why are you hanging out with those guys?" Sophia asked.
"Because they're the ones who kidnapped Jada," Luke replied.
"What!" the girls exclaimed in unison.
"Yeah. They go to Mission Creek University and when I went to football camp there, I overheard them in the hallway talking about to Jada. I kept following them and they caught me. They threatened that if I don't do whatever they say, then they will kill Jada and can harm my family. So I had no choice but to side with them. I didn't tell anyone in the family," Luke explained.
"We didn't tell anyone in our family about the three of us meeting Jada secretly," Alicia said.
"I honestly feel really bad about hiding this from our family. Why can't we just tell them?" Sophia asked.
"We can't, Soph. If we tell our family, then those people will do something to Jada. These secrets will stay between us, ok?" Caty said. They all agreed.
"Luke, I don't think you realized this but you were angry with us that you forced us to get in your car while my car is still at the mall," Alicia said.
"Oh oops. Sorry for that and sorry for yelling at you, especially Soph. Sorry baby," Luke said.
"It's ok," Sophia accepted his apology.
Luke started the car and got out of the gas station and went back to the mall. Alicia and Sophia went into Alicia's car and Caty stayed with Luke in his car and were on their way home. By the time they got back Luke and Alicia's house, they were shocked to see an ambulance, stretcher, and police in front of their house. Neighbors were crowding around to see what was going on. Luke and Alicia couldn't park in the garage or in front of their house, so they parked a few feet from the house.
"What the hell is going on?" Caty asked.
"Language, Caty," Luke corrected her.
"Not right now, Luke," Caty responded.
They piled out of their cars and ran towards their house. They didn't see anyone on the stretcher and they went inside and found Kim crying and her mother, Olivia was comforting her.
"Mom? What's going on? What happened? Why are you crying?" Caty asked her mother.
Kim couldn't respond as she was crying her eyes out.
"Grandma Olivia, why is mom crying?" Caty asked her grandma.
"Caty, when your brother Sean came home and he was about to get out of his car, a drunk driver ran into his car," Olivia said between crying.
"WHAT!" the siblings exclaimed.
