Caty Davenport
During POD/Econ, our teacher took the class to the library to work on our budget project that was due next week. Lucky for me, I had already finished putting my budget project together and thought that was a good time for me to work on the letter that I have to send out to Uncle Leo Dooley.
I sat down at one of the long tables and took out my notebook from my backpack. I looked in the corner of my eyes, making sure that no one was watching me, however, I did notice a middle-aged man putting books on the shelf. His hair was brown and so was his beard, and he wasn't that tall. For some reason, this guy seems suspicious to me.
I got up from my chair and walked up to him. "Excuse me? Can you help me find a book?" I asked him.
"Of course. What book are you looking for?" He asks me. "Unwritten Rules."
"Um......who's the author?"
"The author........author.......oh yeah, Eliah Greenwood. I've heard so many good reviews about this book and I really want to read it. I hope this library has it," I tell him.
"Let me look...." The guy went to look for the book on the shelves. "It might be in the Teen Fiction section......aha! Here it is." He pulled the book off the shelf and showed it to me.
"I can't wait to read this book. Thank you, Mr....." I trailed off, wanting for his name.
"Mr. Smith," He says.
"Mr. Smith? Really/ Such a commoner name." I heard someone say that, but there was no one near me or Mr. Smith.
"What was that?" I looked back at Mr. Smith and he was looking around frantically and kept pressing his beard as if it would come off. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine....you found your book, right? I have other work to do," He says, left and disappeared in another room.
I took the book, paid for it and went back to my seat. I put the book in my backpack and started to write the letter. I finished writing the letter in invisible ink, turned the paper around and wrote something else in regular ink. The school bell rang, signaling that school was over and it was time to leave.
I quickly put the paper in my backpack, gathered my stuff and walked out of the library, and forgot to listen what our English teacher was telling us. I got to my locker, packed the books that I needed to do homework, went out to my car and got inside to start it. I backed out of the driveway and drove towards the post office.
I reached the post office, parked the car, turned it off and went inside. I asked the man at the front desk if he could give me an envelope and stamp, which he did. I took the envelope and stamp, took the letter out of my backpack, put it in the envelope and stamped it. I gave the envelope to the man and paid.
"Please mail this letter as soon as possible and make sure no one gets into it," I tell the man and he nodded.
I left the post office and reached home and went inside. As soon as I got inside and took off my shoes, I heard fast footsteps come down the stairs and was attacked by my brother.
"Did you do it?" He had his hands on my shoulder and he was squeezing me really hard. "First of all, stop squeezing my shoulders. You're hurting me." He let go of me. "Oh sorry. But did you do it?"
"Huh?" I was trying to warn him not to say anything as his girlfriend's kidnapper has their eye on us. "The book. Did you get the Unwritten Rules book by Eliah Greenwood?" He asked and winked at me. I went along with it.
"Oh yeah. I got the book. Let me show you." I set my backpack down on the couch, opened it and showed him the book. "Yes! I can't wait to read it. I hope they make a movie out of this book," He said.
"I know right? But when the movie is made, they better not mess up Winter and Haze's love story," We were starting a conversation and I made a signal with my eyes, telling him that the work has been done and he did a small sigh of relief.
"Ok enough of this. Let's go eat something. I'm hungry," I tell him.
"Mom and Dad are not home yet. We can go to Aunt KC's house," Sean suggested. "Sounds good." Sean took his keys from the key holder and we both went inside to his car. We got inside of his car, he started it, backed out of the driveway and drove to Aunt KC's house, even though she lives almost seven minutes away.
We got to the house, parked and turned off the car, and rang the doorbell. Within seconds, the front door opened, revealing Alicia. Her hair was disheveled, lips were puffy, and had a mark on her neck. "Alicia! What happened to you?" Sean exclaimed and he went inside.
I looked around us and saw his car. Scott's car. Oh, Scott is here also and, him and Alicia were.....oh boy.
"Uh.....nothing......I just fell down the stairs....don't worry, I'm fine," Alicia said and was fiddling with her fingers. Sean went to go use the bathroom and I walked over to Alicia.
"You got something over here." I pointed to her neck and her hand immediately went to her neck and her eyes widened. "Oh my god. Why did he do this?" She whispered to herself.
"What? Did you say something?" I asked her. "What? No, no, no, I didn't say anything."
"Scott's here?" Her mouth went shut, which gave me the answer. "So, it looks like you both were.....getting at it," I teased her.
"Shut up!" She whispered-yelled. Footsteps came down the stairs and it was Scott, with his hair all over the place. When he saw me, his eyes also widened and his face went red.
"Well well well, looks like you two--"
"You need to go. Now!" Alicia literally pushed Scott out of the house and he drove off. I laughed at her. "Come on! You don't have to hide it from me. These things happen in relationships," I tell her.
"Very funny."
3 days later
I opened the mailbox, took the envelopes and went back inside the house. I went through the envelopes and found a letter from Uncle Leo Dooley and I smiled in the inside. I yelled out to my mom that I'm going to Sophia's house. Sophia lives in our neighborhood so I walked instead. I reached her house, rang the doorbell, the door opened and it was Tyler.
"Hey Caty. Come in." He opened the door wider and I went inside. I showed the letter to him. "He mailed back!" He exclaimed.
"He sure did." Tyler called Sophia downstairs and I opened the envelope. I took some water, sprinkled it on the paper, and used the flat end tip of the pencil to see what he wrote back. I kept rubbing on the paper back and forth, and the letters finally showed up.
Elm's warehouse, 5 people guarding the house. Sean's girlfriend is still alive
"Ok, Sean's girlfriend is still alive," I tell them.
"Thank god. So what do we do now?" Sophia ask me. "We get her back to my brother," I decided.
