Chapter 9: Prom Date - Part 2

Well, that was the most awkward plane journey in the world.

All the way through the airport in Atlanta and on the plane journey, Tom kept his distance from me and I did the same. Whenever we were left alone together, there was an awkward silence and only a brief comment about the weather or what we wanted to eat at the café.

When we got to my house in the early hours of the morning, Tom and Harrison slept in my room on my double bed whilst I slept on the spare room. They were boys, so they decided to bunk together.

This morning, I woke up at 8 panicking and dreading the day. Prom was supposed to be a fun time and a time to celebrate the last five years in secondary school. Now I was worried about Tom being dragged to an event he didn't even want to attend. He would be surrounded by 16-year-old girls and boys, crowding him for pictures and not to mention how my friends are gonna react.

Oh. I haven't told Charlotte!

I shot out of bed and grabbed my phone from the bedside cabinet. I opened WhatsApp and composed a message.

Are you awake?

I'd rather she be conscious and actively messaging me for when I drop this bombshell on her.
