Birmingham AirportI was stood in the deserted arrivals area of the airport with my duffel bag on the floor between my legs and a Starbucks in my hands. The brisk evening air brushed up my arms and I shivered.
Tom was arriving from LA tonight after he attended the premiere of The Lost City of Z. Normally he would have flown into Heathrow since he lived in London but we made a plan for the weekend.
Since our date, we'd been texting and FaceTiming each other for hours every day. Sometimes I'd fall asleep talking to him because we would talk late into the night (or into the afternoon for him). Tom was eager to see me again, and I was too, so we decided that I would go to Kingston with him when he got back from LA and spend a few days with him. Since the Easter holidays started today, I had two weeks to spend with him and I intended to make the most of every last second.
The crowd of holiday goers streamed out of the doors from the arrivals and I scanned over them to find Tom. At the back of the crowd, I spotted the brown curls, slightly tanned skin and black sunglasses. He kept his head down to avoid being spotted. Coming off a twelve hour flight, I knew he would be too tired to deal with fans. Even I'm too tired for that, and all I did today was go to school.
Tom lifted his head and scanned the people waiting for their loved ones. I tilted my Ireland Rugby cap up slightly so Tom could see my face. He spotted me instantly and quickly made his way over to me. His sad face brightened into a smile which made me smile as well. Like I said, his smile was infectious.
"Hi, darling," Tom's raspy voice said.
"Hi, Tom," I smiled. "Welcome back to the land of rain and overcast."
Tom chuckled tiredly.
"Yeah, I'll miss the sun," he admitted. "But not as much as I missed you."
I smiled and licked my lips.
"I missed you too, Tom."
He stepped forward and pulled my waist into a tired hug. I could tell by the weakness in his grip that he was exhausted. I wrapped my arms around his neck and squeezed him, letting him know that I missed him.
He turned his head in the crook of my neck and I felt him breath in my scent. I let him relax for a member before pulling away and picking up my bag.
"Shall we go?" I asked.
"Yes, please. I'm so tired I could collapse right here," he sighed.
I giggled and grabbed his hand to lead him out of the terminal. He followed behind me like a puppy as we walked hand in hand towards the car that would take us to Kingston.
The driver opened the boot and put our bags in the back. Tom and I climbed into the back seats as the driver got in the front, started to car and drove out of the airport.
Tom sighed and threw his head backwards on the headrest.
"I could sleep for days," he said.
"Well, you better not," I joked. "I haven't seen you in five weeks. I want your company in physical form."
Tom turned his head to the side to face me and smirked.
"Don't worry, darling. They'll be plenty of time to do things," he said.
"How was LA?" I asked.
He shrugged. "Same as always. Hot, beautiful and a sight for sore eyes. Just like you."
I scoffed and rolled my eyes. Tom was smirked at his flirty comment.
"Wow, you're such a flirt," I laughed.
