Angel's pov

The next day rolls around and I'm already dreading going back for my second day of school. Though, it is Friday today. It's so weird that we started school on a Thursday, but I'm not complaining since I'll have the weekend to do nothing after I finish today.

I walk inside of my first period classroom, finding Ethan in his desk already. He waves at me, smiling largely when he saw me. I smiled too, maybe he'll be a good friend to me, unlike the people in Castro.

Why am I even in Belle Dam? Well, to be honest I don't know. I just know that after my father was taken to prison, my mom wanted to move us here. Us being herself, my brother, and me. Though, my brother does not live with us, he still lives near us. I still don't know the exact reason why we moved from Castro because of my father's arrest. Maybe my mom didn't want me to be questioned at school due to the arrest, or maybe it's because she didn't want to hear everyone ask and talk about it. Or maybe it's simply because she wanted a fresh start.

Why is my father in prison? They suspected him to be responsible for the death of twenty-six individuals. A murderer. No, this didn't hurt me. It didn't hurt my feelings that he was lugged away to prison for what he did. I always knew he was a wrongful man, but never to his family. He was a gang leader, it was only an amount of time before he was caught. He had a good run of thirty years with out being caught, but lets say I'm just happy he won't be killing more people.

"Earth to Angel?" Ethan waved his hand in front of my face. I had to blink a few times to regain consciousness. I looked at him and laughed at myself for being pulled into my own world. "What had you so focused off in lala-land?"

"I was just thinking, thats all." I shrugged it off and pulled out my phone that was vibrating on my lap. I sighed when I saw it was my friends from Castro posting pictures of how their end-of-summer bash is going. I missed them so much.

"So whats your story? Whats the story behind the famous Angel Russ?" Ethan raised an eyebrow at me as he waiting for me to explain myself to him.

"I have no story behind me. My life has always been boring." I shrugged again, looking at Ethan. He tilted his head to the side and admired my feature, as I did his.

"Was Grayson okay yesterday? He didn't say anything at all. Was it just one of those days we all have sometimes? Or is he super shy, or am I just that ugly that I scared him?" I asked, he chuckled and shook his head.

"Actually, Grayson is mute." He explained. I felt my mouth drop as he said this. I don't know why I'm so shocked by this. Perhaps it's because I've never met a person whom is mute.

"Oh. I'm sorry." I looked down. I felt like an asshole now. He shook his head and laughed.

"Don't be. Nobody knows until I tell them. Trust me, I know its surprising. But he wasn't born like that. He actually talked up until he was 10." He explained more. I nodded, waiting for him to continue, but the bell rang which meant we were due for different classes.

"I'll see you at lunch?" He asked, stopping by my classroom door. I nodded and smiled before we parted ways.

Now my mind was racing about Grayson and him being mute. Ethan told me he talked up until he was ten. Why ten? I wanted to know what happened that caused him to become mute.
