Angel's pov
—A sunset to most people is just when the sun begins to go down, and dusk turns to dark. To me, though, they're so much more. Nature has always been such a beautiful thing to me. I loved nature, I loved exploring the creation in which we lived on. I just wish Belle Dam had better nature. Its so dull, and uncolorful. It's boring.
When I was a little girl, my father and I used to watch every sunset together, we never missed a day. The routine was, he'd pick me up from gymnastics practice at the same time every-single-day, and we would get home fifteen minutes before the sun would set. For those fifteen minutes we would play with the soccer ball in the front yard until the sun began to set. Then, we would sit on the porch, or on the grass, sometimes even the roof and just watch the magnificent colors fade to darkness. We did that everyday until I was eleven when he began to not come home at night. He forgot about it, and I had began to hate sunsets. I hated them because they reminded me of my father who never showed us, my mother, brother, and myself, attention anymore. He was gone every-single-night. Wether he was selling his drugs, killing someone, or just being a complete dick to everyone, he was gone. I stopped knowing who my father was.
"Hey, Angel!" Vanessa smiled at me as I walked into the lunch room. I smiled back at her and walked towards the boy's table. Grayson looked up and smiled at me, then Ethan and Jason did.
"How'd you do on the test you had?" I asked, looking at Grayson. He shrugged and stuck his hand into the brown paper sack in front of him. I looked at Jason who was winking at me, then Grayson. His actions caused me to laugh.
"I hate Tess, like honestly, so much." Chance mumbled as he sat down at our table. Vanessa joined him and set her tray on the table. I gave him a puzzled look, and he sighed. Everyone waited for him to tell us what happened.
"She shoved me into a locker after I got done talking to my fourth period teacher. I don't get what I ever did to that bitch." He huffed in annoyance. I roll my eyes and took a bite of my redvine.
"You need to get buff, Chance. She's going to keep pushing you around until you're too big or you stand up for yourself." Ethan raised an eyebrow at him. I looked at Grayson, who was nodding in agreement with his twin.
"Lets start going to the gym." I offered, nudging Chance's shoulder. He looked at me and nodded, "sure. I'll try it out."
"Okay, enough with that topic. Angel, are you going to homecoming?" Vanessa asked, leaning forward across the table so she could see me, being Chance was sitting between us. I looked around the table to see everyone's eyes on me. I saw Grayson chewing on his bottom lip anxiously.
"I don't think I'll go. I still have next year." I replied, looking down at my hands. Grayson stopped chewing on his hip and laid his hand across mine. I looked up and met my eyes with his. He nodded towards the doors, signaling we should leave the others. I nodded and started to remove myself from the table. Grayson got up too, causing our friends to look at us.
"Congrats on the relationship you guys are trying to hide." Jason winked towards Grayson. I rolled my eyes and looked at Grayson who was blushing. He began to sign to Ethan, he nodded and opened his mouth to speak.
"He said he just wants to walk around." He told our friends, Vanessa looked at us and smiled, but didn't show any teeth. She then turned her attention to Jason. As we turned around to leave, I bumped into someone, a scream coming from their mouth, then a huff. I felt my shirt soak.
Looking up I see Tess. I take a step back and almost laugh, but I contain myself.
"Oh you bitch!" She yelled, throwing the rest of her tray on the ground.
"It was an accident, chill out." I rolled my eyes at her exaggeration of what just happened. She huffed again and looked at Grayson.
"You're so worthless." She said to him. I narrowed my eyes and looked at her again.
"Leave him alone. He didn't do anything. I don't understand why you think you have the right to speak to him like that. Is it because he can't defend himself? Or is it because you're just that bored in your own damn life you have to try to ruin someone else's?" I snapped. She laughed coldly and looked my up and down. Both her and I's tee-shirts were see through due to the water that spilled on us. I could feel everyone's eyes on us. I looked at Grayson and he looked so hurt, and upset. It broke my heart.
"Oh, new girl thinks she has a voice? I'm amazed that you haven't stopped speaking like your boyfriend did when his-"
"Listen, bitch. I don't care who you are, who you think you are, or what you think you can do. You walk around this town like you're richest person in the world, which you aren't. You think that everyone is scared of you, which they aren't. Or maybe they are, but I certainly am not scared of you. Not for a second. You sit here and you harass the people who can't stand up to you, or won't stand up to you. You're the lamest excuse for a bully. I hate people like you who feel like they're entitled to everything and believe they can act however they want. What happened to Grayson and why he's mute isn't any of your fucking business. Leave your nose out of it. Reality check, you can't. This shit you're doing now may get you through high school, but you'll fail in the real world with your pissy-pussy ass attitude." I huffed and began to walk away. Grayson caught ahold of my hand and followed me out of the cafeteria which was now filled with chants of "ouh!" and "oh!" Typical high school.
I walked towards my locker and stopped when I was in front of it. Grayson still looked so hurt, and his eyes were glossy. I would be like that too if someone told me I was worthless because I couldn't speak. I frowned as I saw his state, "don't believe what she said. You're not worthless, okay?" I whispered. He nodded and pulled me into his chest.
I sigh left my mouth and I once again felt safe in his touch. We pulled apart and I looked him in the eyes. I reached my hands towards his face and pulled him down to my level. He was the one who went for the kiss. I was debating for a while, then he took over it. I knew people were really going to assume now. I smiled as I thought about it. I pulled away and smiled again.
"Oh, your shirt is wet now. I'm sorry." I said, looking at his shirt. He shrugged. "I'm going to miss the rest of today, it's been stressful enough." He nodded.
"Do you want to come?" I asked, he nodded. I hear quick footsteps from around the corner, then saw Vanessa and Chance. Ethan and Jason were both already at the corner, Jason's mouth was in an 'o' shape, while Ethan's had a smile.
I laughed and shook my head at them before pulling Grayson out of the school and out towards my car.
Narrator's pov
—Everyone body was shocked, and word got around the town fast about Angel standing up to Tess. Word spread so fast that Angel's mother was notified while at work.
Ethan and Jason were more shocked that Grayson was so confident around Angel. Grayson was always shy around girls, but he wasn't with Angel. It was like she brought out the best in him. Vanessa was slightly jealous of how much space Angel was already taking up in Grayson's life. She'd always had a little crush on him.
Everyone ended up at Angel's house instead of in their fifth and sixth periods. They all sat around in her spacious living room bonding and asking a million questions about Angel and Grayson's, "relationship."
And as for Tess, she went home and began her research on the new girl, Angel Russ.
