Angel's pov

Its kind of nice to feel this way about a person, but it has its downsides. It's obvious that Tess is going to be out to get me for as long as I live in Belle Dam, for a reason I'm not exactly sure of. Yes, I did confront her and put her in her place.. but that doesn't mean drag me for the rest of my time in this town. Especially since every time I'll snap back too. I'm not scared.

"Do you feel like one day you'll talk again?" I ask, lifting my head off Grayson's chest. He smiled softly and nodded. I smile and rested my back on his chest, his steady breathing was making me tired, but I moved away from him so I didn't fall asleep. My fear being that I'd fall asleep and then he would, and my mom comes home to see her daughter and a boy in her bedroom.

"Grayson— is this, like us, a thing?" I asked, turning onto my side to face him. He flipped onto his side from his back, he was blushing. He nodded his head and reached for his phone, smiling while doing so.

"I would hope so." He showed me his notes app with the words. I smiled and began to draw small circular patterns on my sheets. Grayson watched as I did this. I didn't really know much to say.

"I started a sign language class. I've learned the alphabet and numbers, and a few basic signs." I told him, looking up from the sheets. He was looking at me with a look I couldn't describe. He then cracked a smile and pulled me closer to him. He smiled into my forehead as he kissed it. He pulled away and rested his hand on my hip, guiding it up the side of my body. I smiled at the touch, I'm not used to being touched affectionately.

"How are we going to do this?" I asked, he removed his hand and flipped back onto his back. He grabbed his phone. I watched him scan his thumb with the home button and open a new note. I closed my eyes while he was typing, I was sleepy. He nudged me softly a few minutes later, handing me his phone.

"Well, it's weird. I know you aren't used to not being able to have real conversations with the guys you have something with. But everything else is normal, dates, hanging out, gifts, sex. Everything in the relationship or whatever is normal, except I just don't talk. But I'm trying to. I'm trying to talk so it's easier for you." I looked at him and set his phone between us. He was looking at the ceiling. He seemed so harmless, which he is.

"Grayson, I hope you know I like you for you. You don't have to try to talk just for me." I spoke softly to the boy who laid in front of me. He looked over at me and smiled. He shrugged. "Really, I like you for you and who you are. Just because you're mute doesn't make you different. It's okay to not talk, I respect that."

He hummed in response, meaning another sound has come from his mouth. He has the ability to speak, he just hasn't found his voice.

I heard the front door close, and I shot up out of bed. I quickly ran to my door and locked it, then looked at Grayson. He looked confused, but he sat up and watched me begin to pace around my room.

"My mom is home early I guess. Um- I'm going to pretend I'm asleep, you can like.. um lay with me since my door is locked." I whispered so she wouldn't be able to hear me. Grayson nodded as I crawled back onto my bed. He wrapped his arms around me, making me feel secure. He just has that affect on me.

"Angel, honey! Are you home?" My mom called. She was on the stairs, it was apparent. I could hear her heels clicking the hardwood of the stairs, and the hallway. I closed my eyes when I realized Grayson had his eyes closed. Maybe if we actually fall asleep, she'll be gone by the time we wake up.
