Chapter 27: The End of a Lifetime

Putting her coat on, cyn was heading off to mr phillips office.

The day had finally arrived, she and her husband, the man she had been with for nearly 11 years was going to now be her ex husband.

As these thoughts raced through her head she made her way downstairs julian was already at the table eating breakfast with dot.

"Oh good you are already eating" she said fixing julians hair.

"Dot let me have my favorite cereal" julian said.

She smiled at him "of course you deserve it darling. Alright dot i am off to court, im really not sure how long it will take, to be honest" cyn said.

"Not to worry love dot said, julian and i are going to have a fun day aren't we" she said asking julian.

"Yes mommy really fun, we are going to the zoo dot promised." Julian said excitedly.

"Oh wow the zoo," cyn said. "Alright then have fun and you can tell me all about it later" cyn said kissing her son on the cheek.

"So when will you two be home" cyn asked dot.

"Probably later tonight. I wanted to give you the day to yourself, i know it is a hard day" dot said.

"Yes, very" cyn said. "But thank you again dot i dont know what i would do without you."

"Dont worry love. Good luck today." Dot said reassuring her.

"Thank you, alright darling mommy is leaving have a good day." cyn said. 

"Bye mommy." Julian said hugging her.

Arriving at court she stepped out of the car, a big crowd ascended, filled with photographers and the press.

Pushing through the crowd les tried to keep them away escorting cyn to the entrance.

Questions began to be asked, "mrs lennon, how are you feeling today? Is john really leaving you? Who is this new woman."

Finally with les help she got through the door.

"Thank you les," she said.

"Of course Mrs lennon" les said, "just let me know when to come get you."

As les exited cynthia made her way to the elevator mr phillips office was upstairs.

As the doors began to close she saw a hand stopping the doors.

Entering it was john.

She looked at him not saying anything, the realization had sunk in this was actually happening.

"Morning,  john said, looking sharp in a nice coat.

Cyn couldn't say anything, she was to miserable.

The elevator ride felt like hours. Here were two people who had been together since they were teenagers, they got married, had a child practically shared a lifetime about to be done for good.

Finally arriving the doors opened, john let her go first.

Finally arriving at mr phillips office the receptionist led them to the room.

"Mr and Mrs lennon, hello" mr phillips said.

"Please take a seat,"

Sitting down they both noticed some other men in suits in the room.

"Oh how rude of me, these are some of the associates of the firm, they are are supervising this case. Since it is my first big case, i hope you dont mind more people in the room." Mr phillips said nervously.

Of course not john said the whole bloody world already knows. John said giving him a stern

"Umm of course right, mr phillips said nervously not knowing how to respond." he found john intimidating, he didnt know what to say around him.

After going over all the details and the other associated listening in the time finally came.

"Well that is most of it mr phillips said, now i will need you both to sign, once you sign you are officially divorced."

Sliding the paperwork in front of them, cyn and john stared at it.

Handing them both pens mr phillips could sense the sadness.

Grabbing the pens they didn't sign.

"Like i said once you sign it will all be over with, mr phillips said. I know you two were in a rush wanting to get this done as soon as possible."

Cyn finally spoke up. "Yes of course" cyn said.

Finally she signed, and signing the paper she felt a lump in her throat like she was going to cry. But she held it back not wanting to show john the tiniest bit of weakness.

Putting the pen down she slumped back in her chair unable to look at anyone.

"Mr lennon," mr phillips said confirming he was going to sign.

John just nodded.

Finally with abit of hesitation he signed.

Putting the pen down mr phillips took the paperwork

"Well i now pronounce you divorced. I told you the process would run smoothly" mr phillips said.

"Right" cyn said.

"So its over, john asked just like that?"

"Yes, just like that divorces are just like getting married.. Only your not.. mr phillips said, knowing how dumb he sounded.

Clearing his throat, he said, "Is there anything else you wanted to ask?" Mr phillips asked john.

"No no, we did what we wanted its done" john said getting up.

The associates looked at each other.

Well i have a flight to paris tonight john said. So i can finally start planning my wedding details. John said.

"Wedding" cyn asked, "wow you work fast."

Cyn knew there wasn't a wedding john just said this to hurt her.

"Its going to be great" john said. Looking at cyn.

"Thanks again phillips" john said making his way to the door

"Wait" cyn said getting up, "here" cyn took off the jade ring on her hand.

"This belongs to you." She said handing it to him.

John took it stunned. That had been the ring he bought her when he was in japan. It was a very special ring.

She had never taken it off since he gave it to her.

Putting it in his pocket he felt hurt.

"Well ok then i gotta go pack" he said leaving the office.

Cyn sat back down in the chair sighing.

"It's all right mrs lennon it is all over." Mr phillips reassured her.
