Chapter 3

The weather was nice.Lucas brought them to a bench which showed the whole garden.It was her first timeseeing so many variety of flowers.

Melanie's grandparents used to have a garden but there weren't as many as this.

She looked at Lucas while he was lost in his thoughts and studied his side profile."Is this real?". She couldn't believe it.

She was going to marry such a handsome man.Although she may be young but there was nothing else to do in her life anyway.

She had wanted to study further but her condition doesn't allow her and she didn't want to become a burden to Uncle James.He already has his children to take care of.

"Stop staring".He glanced at her.She blushed furiously."He caught me gawking!".She turned my gaze to her feet.

"This garden is beautiful".Melanie said but he didn't reply.She glanced at him and their eyes met."He is staring at me!".

She looked away quickly but she did notice something in his eyes.Anger?Hate?Regret?.Is he against this marriage?Then why did he agree?

"Do you not want to marry me?".She blurted."Stupid Melanie keep your mouth shut!".She heard him sigh but she didn't had the courage to look at him.

"Isn't that obvious?".Lucas said making her heart drop in her stomach."I knew it!".

He was being forced in this relationship.She didn't blame him though.Nobody would want to marry a crippled like her.

"I am sorry".She mumbled."Its getting cold.We should head inside".He got up and waited for her.

Melanie nodded and grabbed my crutches.He walked ahead while she trailed behind him.Lucas vanished from her side not sparing a glance.

I guess I was too stupid to think he would escort me to the room.I need to stop getting my hopes high.

"You are back!Did you enjoy Melanie?".Lucas's sister Roseanne asked.

"Yes I did.The garden is very beautiful".She replied with a smile.

"I am glad you did.Mom has been working on it for atleast 3 years".

"That is amazing".Shs said,trying to balance her crutches.The floor here is kind of slippery and she was really worried she might slip.

"Are you okay?".She asked when she noticed her struggling.

"Yes I am fine".She didn't wanted to tell them.She would be annoying to complain about their floor.Plus they won't change it for her so what's the use."If you say so".She placed her hand on Melanie's shoulder and led her inside.

"Melanie we were waiting for you".said Mr.Williams as we entered.When he noticed me alone,he frowned "Where is Lucas?".

"He-".

"He went to his room".Roseanne cut me off."I am sorry he always acts lile this".Mr.Williams sighed.

"Come have a seat Melanie.We have something to tell you".Uncle James motioned her to sit down.She nodded and placed her crutches aside and sat down.

"Me and your Uncle talked and have decided the engagement date".Mr.Williams spoke.

She couldn't believe this was happening! She was glad the wedding isn't decided yet or else she was going to have a mental breakdown.She did agree with Uncle about this all but she had this feeling that its not going to be good as he said it would be.

"Its going to be in the next week.Are you okay with that?".He asked.She bit her lip and nodded hesitantly."Did you ask Lucas?".She finally said the question which had been lingering in her head.

"Don't worry I will tell him later.He will agree.I wanted to know if you are okay about this".

The room was silent and she could feel everyones eyes on her.No or Yes? One word would change her life.She couldn't back down now.She have to do this for her Uncle's sake.

She took a deep breathe and looked up."I...".I gulped.

"I agree".
