Chapter 10

"Ms.Melanie do you need any help?".The maid asked at which Melanie shook her head.

"No thank you".She pursed her lips and carefully sat down on the couch in the living room.Everyone went outside leaving Melanie alone with two maids. It was too quiet that was starting to creep her out.

Mrs.Williams had gone out to meet her best-friend while Mr.Williams had went to france for a business trip and won't be returning which she had no idea since they never tell her anything.And finally Lucas,he had returned from work but literally after 6 minutes he had disappeared through the front door.

Plus,she was bored to the point that she could watch the maids work in the kitchen but they weren't.So,she decided to watch T.V in the living room since hers didn't had one.

Once she made herself comfortable,she grabbed the remote turning it on.She groaned in annoyance as she switched between chanels.Most of them were of news and cooking which she never had any interest in.

She was immersed in her task that she didn't hear the front door opening and footsteps nearing."Where is everyone?".

The voice starled her causing her to drop the remote."Why are you so jumpy?".Lucas picked up the remote handing it back to her."So?".He asked.

Melanie glanced at him but remain silent keeping her eyes trained on the screen."They didn't tell you?".She asked shocked.

Lucas clenched his fists."I forgot my phone at home so I don't know".She nodded but didn't say anything.He furrowed his eyebrows but then sighed sitting beside her."Melanie-".

"I am not in the mood to talk".She cut him off.They had a little space between them which was making her squirm in her place.If her legs allowed her to,she would scoot to the end of the couch.

Lucas inhaled a sharp breath before speaking.

"I am sorry".

She blinked not believing that he just apologized.His voice sounded stressed and tired which made her turn to look at him.Lucas was already looking at her with a guilty expression.

"I apologize for my choice of...words.I just wanted to make you understand but my anger got the best".He ran a hand through his hair.Her eyes moved to his silky hair as they bounced back in place.

"It's just that my parents forced me in this".He pointed at himself and her."Marriage thing and it was just too much to take in after-".He paused

Melanie understood he was going to say something but chose not to."After what?"."Is he talking about the incident?".

He shook his head and held it low."I am not ready and maybe I might never be".He looked up at her."What I am trying to tell you is that don't feel for me something because I don't think I can return it".

She felt a pang of hurt.How was she suppose to live with someone her whole life and not feel something for him? And evem worse how was she going to live knowing he would never love her.

Melanie pursed her lips and nodded."I-".Her voice wavered."I understand".She smiled hesitantly taking his hand in her.

"It is really early for me so it's okay".She patted his hand and blinked rapidly to stop the tears threatening to come out.

Lucas stared at their hands before smiling at her."Thank you for understanding".
