"Where did you go?".His voice was calm which made Melanie's inside turn cold.
"I..I-".
Lucas finally turned around,his eyes blank and lips set in a straight line."I asked where did you go?!".He raised his voice.
"It w..was urgent I had to-".She let out a gasp,her back hitting the down as he walked closer,towering over her.Melanie was sure her heart would rip out of her chest considering how fast it was beating.Fear chilled down her spine.
"I don't care if it was urgent! How dare you leave without asking me? You are my wife now,I own you!".
Anger flashed on her face,"I am not a thing you can own! I have my right to go wherever I want".She knew she was stepping boundary and possibly signing her own death certificate but the rage made her listen to her heart than her mind.
Lucas let out a humourless laugh."You should have thought about your rights before you agreed to marry me princess".He mocked."You should have pushed away your gold-digging desire if you really wanted your freedom".
Tears blurred her eyes."I am not a gold-digger".She wanted to shout but all came out was a croak."I married because of my uncle".
"Bullshit! Tell me,you didn't feel anything when you saw this house? Huh? Now you are using our transport as you wish ".
"I did so what? That makes me a gold digger? Just because I felt a little happy getting my own after living in a freaking basement makes me a good digger? If I feel happy here after being treated like trash in my own house then sue me,maybe I am a gold digger.And you don't get to accuse me of agreeing to all of this when you did the same.You had the right to decline but you didn't so if you won't to blame someone,why don't you try yourself first?".
She uncomfortably ducked under his arm and limped to the bathroom.She could hear him breathing heavily but she didn't dare glance behind.She felt a 'little' bad after her outburst but it was justified.Just because she was crippled doesn't mean she isn't human.She has rights to keep secrets just like him.When Lucas is willing to share,she might too but that moment doesn't seem very close.
She quickly slipped in the bathroom and closed the door.She waited until her room's door slammed shut.As of on cue,tears started dripping down her cheeks.Vision blurred,she grabbed the counter trying to prevent herself from falling.Melanie didn't know why she was crying.Maybe they were tears of anger or happiness.
Anger at Lucas for treating like he owned every move in her life just because he is her husband and happy because she had a chance to walk again.She didn't know how she would get money for the treatment.Guilt spread through her chest.She would only be able to walk because of William's money.Maybe Lucas was right,she was gold-digger.
