Melanie watched as the car reversed and drove away. She had told the driver that it may take an hour or so and he should return home. She would call when her appointment would be done.
He agreed not before giving her a worry look.He had became stiffened at the mention of hospital but didn't question it.She begged him not to tell anyone yet and that she would inform them herself.
Melanie pushed open the glass doors and was met with coolness of the air conditioner. She did not expect it to be this crowdy. She was worried she might bump in someone and make a fool out of herself. She clutched her crutches, firmly and made her way towards the reception.
On her way, despite it being a hospital where injured and sick come to,it didn't stop people from giving her looks. Some of them were of sympathy while others were of distaste.Maybe it was because of how she was dressed. She concluded that they were probably wondering what a girl dressed such as me is doing here alone.
Melanie ignored the stares as she reached the counter.A auburn haired girl stood on the other side, who was busy on the phone.Melanie glanced at her wristwatch and noticed she was getting late.Dr.Frank must be waiting for her.
"Excuse me-".Melanie frowned when the girl ignored her."I am getting late".She stated earning a irritated look from the girl whose name she had learned was Nancy by looking at her nametag etched on the front of her shirt.
"I understand.I will call you later".Nancy finally hung up followed by a sigh."What do you want?".She asked, not hiding her annoyance.
"I have an appointment with Dr.Frank.I want to know-".
"Room 23,Second floor".Nancy cut her off, dismissing her with her hand.Melanie didn't bother thanking her and headed towards the elevator. She pressed the button to the said floor once she got inside.
The elevator smoothly lifted then a 'ding' told Melanie that she was here. She passed by many doors until she stopped at room 23."Hope it goes well".She whispered to herself before pushing the door open.
Dr.Frank was seated behind his desk with a paper in his hand.Melanie closed the door behind her gaining his attention."I am so glad you decided to come.My dear".He pulled her in a hug before making her sit down.
"Thank you for doing this".She said, her voice cracking.
Dr.Frank shook his head."You are like a daughter to me.Ofcourse I would do this to you".He smiled and picked up receiver of his telephone."Ms.Belemore,please come to my office".He placed it back and turned around."Are you ready to make a change".He asked placing a hand on her shoulder.
Melanie looked up and offered a warm smile. She was determined to wromg the people who thought she was better being crippled.
"I am".
