I don't understand. Why is this so amusing to humans?
I try to pull my hands away from one another, but the string keeps that from happening. I put my hands together, and the string loosens, but stays tangled around my fingers. I pull them apart again. Humans are entertained by the simplest things, it's almost funny.
Not that I could laugh.
I drop my hands into my lip without bothering with removing the string. I sincerely wish Master would finish with the nerve wirings. Then maybe, just maybe, he'll be able to give me a heart. I would do anything for the ability to feel emotions.
It's been months. Longing for feelings made it feel like an eternity. It also takes up all of Master's time, and that doesn't help with the wait. I miss him; he doesn't like my being in the room with him while he's working. He says it's because I'm too much of a distraction.
I look back at the strings. How are humans are so intrigued by something so trivial and useless?
"Seokjin! Seokjin, where are you?!"
I raise my head. "In here, Master," I call out.
Master bursts in through my bedroom door. I recently had my charging pod moved into an extra room in Master's house after he wanted me to be closer to him. I don't mind in the slightest. He's panting, out of breath. "Seokjin, there you are! I've been looking for-what are you doing?" he asks as he spots my tangled hands.
"I believe you humans call it the Cat's Cradle. Is there some sort of trick to it or is this all?"
He blinks at me. "No, that's it. It's not important!" He hurries into the room. He grabs my hands and pulls me to his feet. As he unwraps my fingers, he explains, "I have wonderful news, Seokjin." He allows the string to fall to the floor, not letting go of either of my hands. "I finished them."
My eyes widen. "Really?"
He nods rapidly. "Yes! And I think I've got it this time." His hold tightens, squeezing my hands. "Are you prepared to give it another go?"
I try my best to give a smile, but I know it looks fake. I've never felt the happiness needed in order to genuinely smile. "Yes."
He beams. "Let's not waste time then!" Still holding one of my hands, he pulls and leads me out of the room and down to the lab in the basement. When he releases his grip, sadly, he immediately rushes over to one of his many tables. Without looking back, he instructs, "Seokjin, please lie down on the table."
Even though he can't see me, I nod in response. I slip off my shirt and my pants, leaving my underwear, and set them aside. I lie on my back and wait patiently for Master to return.
I hear his steps before I see him. He looms over me and grins. "Are you excited?"
I fold my hands over my bare chest. "Master, have you forgotten? I cannot feel excitement."
He sighs with a roll of his eyes. "Never mind." He opens the door to my chest and began to work. I hear him disconnect a few wires. Then, his fingers pause on the most important plug. "Are you ready?"
"As ready as I'll ever be." I have been watching him the entire time, but he only now meets my gaze. I nod in assurance. "Go ahead, Master."
I think he has given up on having me call him by his true name, because he never bothers to correct me. "Alright." He suddenly goes silent and still, staring down at me.
