"Is it absolutely necessary that we wear these?"

The knight doesn't look up from sharpening his long, shiny sword. "Yes." He peers at the tip. "Because if you're going to assist the prince, you're going to have to look the part. The palace has extremely high standards," he glances over at us, "and you must meet them."

I step down from the box I stood on and walk over to the other, looking at my dongsaeng in the three mirrors that point at us. "You look great, Jungkookie."

He smirks shyly. "I've never even seen a suit like this in real life, let alone worn one. I'm afraid I'll ruin it."

I rub his shoulders. "It's alright."

Jungkook side eyes me, and I can read his nervous expression. Ever since Knight Namjoon bought him from the whore house owner, he always gives me a look whenever I speak or touch him without asking for permission. I know for a fact he's scared our new owner will lash out and beat the both of us, but he still doesn't know what I am or why Namjoon purchased us.

The knight stands and slides his sword into its sheath. "Alright." He steps up to me and takes ahold of my wrist, yanking gently so that I face him. I struggle against him, pulling my arm out of his grasp. Jungkook gasps behind me.

Namjoon does nothing about my little rebellious act. He simply places both hands on my shoulders to smooth down the fabric and fixes my tie for me. Lowering his hands, he gives me a quick once over with his hard gaze that never fails to send a chill down my spine. Sometimes I think he purposely gives me an enticing gaze to intimidate me. He says, "Both of you, follow me." He pushes past me, not waiting to see if we listen and follow.

My brother and I fall into step with each other behind the royal knight. Jungkook gets close and whispers, "Hyung, be more careful."

"It's fine, Kook."

He takes my hand. "No, it's not. He works in the palace. He could kill you before you could blink. You can't talk yourself out of a situation with him." He pauses, probably waiting for me to respond. I don't. "Promise me you'll behave, Jin-hyung." His hold on my fingers tighten in desperation. "Please."

A lump forms in my throat at his plea. I was the one to teach Jungkook how to survive. The only way he gets through our line of "work" is because I told him how. I told him everything he needed to do or say. I convinced owners that he was worth the money, and I was sure to find nice and caring slave buyers. I was always there for him; I hate thinking that he'd ever have to take care of me.

I squeeze his hand back. "I promise, Jungkook. I know what I'm doing. You gotta trust me. Can you do that?"

He sighs uncertainly. "I have my whole life, hyung. Yes, I can do that."

Namjoon leads the both of us down so many hallways and staircases I wonder how it's possible we're still in the same building. I've seen how large the palace is, but only from a distance. In all our lives, Jungkook and I have never left our town. If you find the right hill, and it's high enough, you can see the castle in all its glory. It's especially beautiful at night with all of its lights glowing against the dark. I never imagined I'd step foot in a place this big.

"This way," he commands assertively when I dawdle too long to admire a gorgeous painting. Jungkook slaps my arm and glares at me. I merely shrug at the daggers he throws my way and continue to follow the knight.
