"Could you please stop pacing? It's getting sort of annoying."
"Shut up, Hoseok." Jeez, Namjoon. Tone it down a little. He didn't do anything wrong. I ran both hands through my hair. "Sorry, I just can't believe they aren't back yet. What kind of people stay out this long?"
"Uh...people on a date?"
I sighed. Clearly, he didn't see my point. "Exactly, Hobi. And I don't like it!" I looked through the peephole of the door again, staring at an empty hallway.
I heard Hoseok get up out of his seat. "Look, Namjoon, if you didn't want him going out on a date, then you should have told him how you feel."
"You don't think I know that? I was just... waiting for the right time."
"It's been the right time for the past four months!"
"Hoseok, you're not making me feel any better."
A moment of silence passed before he slapped a hand on my back. "I know you don't want to hear this right now, but I think he's moved on."
I started, "Hoseok-"
"No, you listen." He forced me to face him and grabbed my shoulders so I couldn't turn away. "You and Jin dated for a year, broke up, and four months later he finally has a date. You have no right to freak out about it. He's waited long enough. He has the right to date whoever he likes."
"I know that. But that doesn't mean I have to like it."
He took a step back. "I'm sorry, man, but I think it's time for you to move on too."
I thought it over. I know I should forget him, and I remind myself that every day, but living across the hall from him really complicated the whole "moving on" idea. I see him every morning when I go to work and every evening when I get home. And, since neither of us work on the weekends, I see him even more often. Then, two weeks ago, he borrowed some ingredients from me. He's a chef and was trying out some new things but didn't have the time to run to the store, so he settled on asking me if I had them. I did, and that was the last time I spoke a full sentence to him.
"I don't know if I can."
"I'm here for you. 94 liners need to stick together!" He flashed his contagious smile, and my mood was immediately lifted a bit. "How about we go get some takeout?"
"Yeah, sure."
Suddenly, I heard laughter erupt in the hallway. My mood plummeted. I'd know that laugh anywhere. It's not hard to distinguish Jin's laugh. It's so unique you could never forget it. I looked at Hoseok.
His eyes grew wide and he reached out to grab me. "Don't you dare-"
I ignored him and avoided getting caught. I raced up to the door and looked through the hole. They're back. Oh god, they look so happy together. They stood in front of Jin's door, smiling at one another. They were talking, but it was too muffled to be distinguished. A few seconds passed, and Jin moved towards his door.
"Yes! Yes, he's going inside. Yeah, yeah, Jin, come on. Tell him goodnight and go inside. Yes. Yes. Wait-no. No. NO, GOD NO!"
"What, what, what?!" Hoseok stood directly behind me, suddenly very interested in the whole situation. "What's going on?"
"He invited him inside."
"He what?!" he questioned shockingly.
"He's going inside. Oh god, he's in. HOLY SHIT THEY SHUT THE DOOR!"
Hoseok moved away from me. "Wow. Who knew Jin-hyung was so bold. On the first date too."
This can't be happening. Jin and I were supposed to end up together. I should be over there, not him. I should be the one touching him and kissing him, not the new guy in the picture. "I can't let this happen."
