"Yawn," I stretch, sitting up and trying to shake off the exhaustion of yesterday. I blink my eyes and see that the sun is starting to rise, but it hasn't yet passed the horizon. The moon is still up and the stars are twinkling.
I pull my covers off and put my feet on the edge of the bed, ready to get up, and head to my closet. I'm wearing the same shirt as yesterday and a pair of PJ shorts. I blush, realizing that both Kyler and Jameson saw my underwear, in my state of crisis.
I want to take a shower, but I'm still a little shaky and wobble to my closet. I change my undergarments, and grab a black T-shirt with a clock on it, the saying, "Time stops for no man, but that doesn't mean he won't stop for a lady," in cursive. It's very steampunk and I love it. I pull on a pair of black sweatpants, because I need some comfy clothes.
I put on some black boots and my lace choker, noticing that the necklace from my dream is still around my neck.
"Aah," I scream, and stumble backwards and out of the closet onto the floor.
"Whaa...?" I stutter. How? It was just a dream, right. I grab my hair. It's impossible, right? Well, maybe not. I'll have to ask...
I stop my train of thought right there when I notice two figures tripping over themselves to get into my room. First Kyler comes in and then Jameson follows. They're both wearing the same outfit as yesterday, and they look disheveled, like they didn't get a wink of sleep.
"Lily, you're awake!" Kyler exclaims, "Are you okay?"
I look down at the necklace and realize that now isn't the time to ask questions I'm not sure I want the answers to. Plus, I feel that if I talk about what happened, I'll have consequences I'm not ready to face.
"Yeah I'm fine," I wave off and stand up, brushing myself down and giving a thumbs up. "The question should be, 'Are y'all okay,' because you two look like you've been up all night."
Jameson nods, "You're absolutely right. Your friend Kyler made me spend the night here and we spent shifts throughout the whole night checking on you. I removed the love potion over a dozen times so you would be A-okay for today. Plus, Kyler made me sleep on the couch. I'm so glad you're awake and feeling better so I can be off the hook from your buddy." He turns around and starts to walk off.
"Wait, Jameson," I say, putting my hand on my hip and raising my eyebrow. He turns around, waiting.
"I...i...I'm still mad at you. What you did to me is not okay, and I should really go to the government about it,"
"...they wouldn't..."
"But, I'm going to let it slide, okay? I still need my mom to be supported and so I'm going to continue working for you and pretend that this never happened. Just, please don't make me regret it," I explain rubbing my forehead and sighing, can't believing the world I live in.
"Lily," Kyler barks, "you can't just let him go like that," he protests.
I look up at Jameson and see him considering my words.
"Great Lily! I'm glad to see you're reasonable, unlike your compadre," Jameson says, grinning that skin-curdling smirk.
I shudder, immediately regretting my decision.
"Well, I should get going," he says, excusing himself.
"Don't be late to homeroom," I wave as he leaves, and for a second I think I see a genuine smile on his face.
"Well Kyler, we should get ready. We have an eventful day ahead of us, right," I smile.
Kyler blinks, still shocked at how I handled that. "Wha...wha...why did you just let him go like that. That treatment, that's what the resistance is fighting against, superiority against people. They think they can take advantage of us like that, but we're fighting back," he yells, exasperated.
