My breaths are short and shallow. I can feel myself panting as I gasp desperately, trying to get some form of air into my lungs.
Before me, across the battlefield, I can see the ruins of a once great castle, now crumbling to ashes and dust. Sweat drips down my brow, and I steady my hands, gripping my greatsword tighter. The iron shimmers brightly in the sunlight.
I look at my hands, which are large and pale, speckled with aqua scales. I look down at my body, and realize that I'm not myself. My body is muscular and skinny, with no breasts whatsoever. I'm a guy. I shake my head, and some of my white hair falls in my eyes. White hair?
As my breathing steadies, it hits me; I'm in a vision. Normally I see visions as an outsider looking in, but this time, I'm experiencing someone's life. As them. That's...interesting.
My neck stings, painfully, as though an electrical current is being sent through it, and I wince, stumbling forward. I grit my teeth, trying to stable myself, but I hear laughing off to my left, and my head snaps towards the sound.
I see a tall, pale man with dark black hair and dark fuschia eyes. He's wearing all black, looking like a shadow come to life, and he's grinning maniacally at my struggle.
"Finn, dear, just surrender. You won't have to fight anymore. You'll be all ours for eternity, and the people you love will remain safe," he says, and my eyes flicker to a girl who looks exactly like him standing to his right.
"Nathan, you said that this would be a fair fight," I say, my voice sounding more masculine, but still very young. Whoever I am, I think they're my age.
The girl laughs this time, "Well Nathan promised that, yes, but I made no such promise, pet."
I grit my teeth, taking a deep breath and steadying my arms. I grip my sword tighter, adjusting my stance.
I glance back behind me, and see a whole host of faces.
I see a taller girl with snow white hair, pale lavender eyes, fair skin, and pointed ears. She looks like a royal, and she's watching me warily, her cheeks slightly flushed as she stares at me.
I hear her name whispered in my mind like I've always known it, Taenya. It must be who I am, remembering his friends and loved ones, the people he risked his life for.
Next to her is a tall woman with turquoise skin. The woman has short glowing hair that flows upwards and ombres from blue to yellow. Her eyes are a sea green, and she's got dragon wings, a tail, and horns, as well as fangs. She's look so unique, like a dragon taking human form. She's also slightly transparent, as if she's a ghost. She smiles at me, filling my bones with confidence and comfort. Shekora.
I see a short, stocky boy and girl with tan skin, amber hair and blue eyes. They look like twins, and war-hardened, with scars criss-crossing all over their body. The boy has a warhammer strapped to his back, as well as solid armor, and his sister has a battleaxe strapped to her back. The boy refuses to meet my eyes, but the girl looks at me angrily, like she's pissed that I'm standing here. Neil. Orinella.
I also see a man with aqua skin, seafoam hair, aqua eyes, fox ears, and nine tails swishing nervously behind him. He's grinning at me wickedly, and he has faith that I can win, his sharp canines catching the light. Vulpine.
Holding onto his arm is a girl with lilac skin, violet hair, and glowing violet eyes. She has no pupils or irises; her entire eye is violet, and smoke is coming out of her eye socket. She's also got lilac horns curling upwards and a thin tail that is curling itself around the man. She looks at me frantically, nervous that I'm standing there alone. Raelyn.
