I drudge out of bed, and walk over to my closet. I look around at my clothes, and pick out a long sleeve violet t-shirt. I grab a pair of black leggings, and my favorite grey and black striped jacket. I grab my black choker, put my white socks and black converses on, and walk into the bathroom to complete my hygiene routine.
I walk back over to my nightstand and grab my watch and a few hair ties, slipping them on my wrists. I look at circlet, my circlet, one last time. It's my crown, proving that I am the heir to the throne of Skyen. I have a throne. I can't back away from my destiny now. I grab it, and put it into my backpack. I don't know if I'll have a chance to stop by home again before I leave with Trace, and I want to take this with me to the capital. If I get caught, I want to have this.
I walk out of my room with my backpack, and see Kyler sitting on the couch. He's lost in thought.
"Kyler," I start.
He turns around and looks at me, "What's up Lily?"
"Ha...The sky...duh..." I stumble, glancing around the place. Gosh, I made things awkward last night...
He raises an eyebrow, "Okay...? Well, anyway...are you ready to head to school?"
I nod, he grabs his backpack, and we head out the door, walking side by side. I want to grab his hand but I don't feel certain. I don't want to hurt him. The walk is uncomfortable, and I've never been more happy to walk into Leta's classroom. I sit down, and twiddle my thumbs, already anxious for homeroom.
Jameson walks in and sits down next to me.
"Hey," he says, tapping me on the arm. "How did everything go with Trace? Are you alright?"
I gulp, "Good, I guess. Why do you ask?" No I'm not alright. In less than 24 hours my life has changed drastically. I'm going to the capital. Four people know about my identity, I'm planning on using magic to save one of my best friends, I tried to kiss Kyler and he rejected me...
"You look terrible. No offense, but you look like you barely slept..." He says, trying to be considerate. He really has changed the most in these past months. He used to bully everyone, and he felt so entitled. Now he's kind and caring, and tries to help people. I'm proud of him, though it's sad. His work, it'll all be for naught. He's doing it to make me happy, to make me fall in love with him. And I can't. I don't have enough time.
Gosh, I've already given myself a death sentence...
"Well class," Leta says as she begins the lesson. I zone out, dreading what I've resigned myself to. I hope Jameson's surprise lifts my spirits a little bit before I walk to my doom.
The day speeds by, and before I know it, it's lunch time. Kyler and I walk to Leta's room, and the three of us head down to Sil's.
"Lili, good luck today," Leta smiles, as Kyler and I walk into Sil's. Sil smiles at me as she looks up from making a potion.
She speaks gently, "Today, I was thinking we could continue our forge magic lesson by..."
"Sil?" I interrupt, nervous, "Do you think you could teach me healing magic instead?"
She looks startled, and Kyler averts his eyes. "Why? Lily, is something wrong?"
I shake my head. "No, I just cut myself the other day while I was cooking, and wanted to know if I could heal it using magic."
Sil raises her eyebrow inquisitively, "You cook?"
I nod, "Yeah, my parents are really passionate about it."
Sil thinks for a minute, "Well, I can teach you some of the basics of healing, though it might be hard considering we haven't practiced death or world magic. Come over here and let me see that cut so we can get started."
