~3rd Person POV~"What the hell do you want now?" Noctis snarled, eyes glaring daggers at the chancellor.
"My dear boy, I am simply passing on a message." Noctis waited for the older man to continue. "Such a shame royalty is blind. A beautiful flower blossoms at your side, yet you ignore the thorns that are hidden under the alluring petals."
"What is this-some kind of damn riddle?"
"A warning, Your Highness. The beautiful rose at your side bears the prickliest of thorns. Be wary for the thorns seep poison." With those final cryptic words, Ardyn disappeared. Noctis thought on his words, trying to make any sense of them. A frustrated sigh left him as he returned to the passenger car. Falcon was sitting next to Ignis, tending to his injured eyes. With her quick thinking, she was able to at least save one of his eyes.
"How is he?" He asked.
"Better. By this time tomorrow, you should be able to see out of your right eye. I'm sorry I couldn't salvage the left one, Ignis," she sadly replies.
"Nonsense. I am blessed to be able to see from either eye," he said, smiling faintly.
"Fal, can I talk to you?" Noctis asked, hoping she would know what Ardyn meant.
"Yeah. We can head to the cabin and talk privately. Gladio's still in the dining car and won't be back for awhile."
"Ooh, secrets~!" Prompto chants.
"Prom, stay," Noctis ordered. The blonde crossed his arms with a pout before sinking back in his seat.
Falcon and Noctis headed to the cabin car and entered theirs. They sat next to each other and the prince shared what happened with Ardyn and repeated his words. The young woman clutched the hem of her shirt tightly, knowing exactly what the chancellor was referring to.
"Fal, you okay?" Noctis asked as he took her hands in his.
She looked up and locked gazes with him. "There's something very important I need to tell you, Noct. Before I do, I am prepared for whatever the outcome is. I've been dreading this day for years."
"What is it?"
Falcon took a deep breath before confessing her darkest secret. "The 'flower' Ardyn was referring to was me. I am a poisonous flower hidden among harmless ones. Two years ago, I was assigned by Emperor Iedolas to infiltrate the Citadel and assassinate the future heir of Lucis-you. I thought the mission was going to be easy, but then... we spent so much time together. As I grew closer to you, I couldn't bring myself to kill you. I was blinded by love and failed my mission."
Noctis pulled away, jolting to his feet and pacing back and forth. Falcon couldn't even look at the boy as he mumbled to himself in disbelief. "Why?"
His sudden question caught her off-guard. "What?"
"What would someone like you gain for my death?"
"I would've been able to see my family again."
Noctis was in complete shock. This was the first time since he met her that he's heard about her family. "Family?"
"Yes. They were captured by the empire and that's how I became Iedolas' little assassin. The bastard used my own family against me. He said if I killed you, they would go free and I would be free."
"Then, why didn't-"
"I watched you every day, Noctis. You didn't deserve a knife in your back just because of your title. I met a kind, funny, and charming boy that day, not a prince. After I failed my mission, Ardyn was the one who killed my family."
Noctis began to breathe heavily. "I... I need to clear my head."
Falcon nods, lowering her head as the prince left her in the cabin. She stared down at the floor, cursing Niflheim under her breath and all who called it home.
After an hour of thinking, Falcon stood from her seat just as the sound of shattering glass could be heard. She stormed out of the cabin and saw daemons were littering the train. In the distance, she spotted familiar red locks and a hat heading towards the rear car.
Falcon summoned her sword, killing any daemon that dared to touch or get in her way. She weaved through the cars until she reached the final passenger car. Inside, she saw Noctis with his sword in-hand and facing off against Ardyn. Falcon gritted her teeth and stormed in the cart, her blade resting at her hip. The chancellor turned and grinned. "It's been quite awhile, my dear. You look divine as always."
"You've always disgusted me," she hisses.
Ardyn places a hand over his heart, feigning a hurtful expression. "You wound me."
Noctis sprung into action and attacked the older man. Ardyn conjured his own blade and parried the prince's blow. Falcon took the advantage and attacked from behind. Before she could even bring her sword down, he vanished and reappeared behind Noctis. "I tire of these fruitless games." He shoved Noctis forward, causing him to collapse to the ground. The man raised his sword while Noctis was caught off-guard.
"No!" Falcon shouts, dashing over to him. She knew she wasn't going to block the attack in time and decided to use her body as Noctis' shield. She turned her back to the chancellor and felt a blade pierce her back and through her chest. Noctis' eyes widened in fear and shock. "F-Fal..." Blood from the sword dripped onto the boy's body.
"Such a brave, yet idiotic sacrifice, sweet girl. I grow bored and will deal with His Majesty at a later date," Ardyn grinned, yanking the blade out of Falcon's body. She cried out in pain, her arms shaking as she tried to keep herself from falling onto Noctis. With a chuckle, Ardyn vanished.
Losing all strength in her body, Falcon crashed on top of Noctis. The boy felt the warm blood but ignored it as he saw her skin turn deathly pale. "No, no, no, no! You'll be fine, Fal. We just need-"
"I'm glad... I was able to... save you in the end..."
"Please, don't leave me, Falcon. I love you!" He begged as tears poured from his eyes. Noctis sat up and cradled her body in his arms. "Dammit!"
Falcon raised a shaky hand, placing it against his cheek. "I... love you... Noctis."
The prince grabbed her hand and pressed it against his cheek. He cried out as her hand went limp against his, shouting her name at the top of his lungs. Noctis refused to let go of her lifeless body as he rocked her back and forth. He buried his head in the crook of her neck, cursing the Astrals and the empire for taking her away from him. Due to her sacrifice, Lucis still had a king. Morosely, it left him with a shattered and unmendable heart.
