~3rd Person POV~"How're you feeling?" Prompto asked as he cuddled with (Y/n) in his arms.
"Much better now that I'm warm. When are we leaving?"
"Tomorrow. We'll head to Tenebrae and meet up with the others. They plan on stopping there and I hope we haven't missed them." Prompto nuzzled his face in the crook of (Y/n)'s neck. "For now, you need rest."
She hums in response and leans her head against Prompto's chest. After a few minutes, all he could hear was (Y/n)'s gentle and even breaths. He couldn't hide his joy and smiled from ear-to-ear as she slept in his embrace. The girl he has loved for so long was alive and in his arms. Nothing could make him any happier.
Aranea returned from patrol and gave the good news. "No one's followed us. We leave for Tenebrae in the early morning."
"Why so early?"
"There's a snowstorm brewing in the west. If we're gonna beat it, we'll have to leave early in the morning. Will she be alright?" The ex-mercenary asked, nodding towards (Y/n).
Prompto nods, "Yeah. She'll be fine."
Aranea nods before getting comfortable herself and falling asleep. Prompto laid down with (Y/n) still in his arms and followed suit. After he pulled the blanket over both of them, he fell asleep within seconds.
-Next Morning-
"Ready, (Y/n)?" Prompto asked as she mounted the snowmobile behind him.
"Yeah, but are you sure you don't want your jacket? You're gonna freeze," she said worriedly.
"I'll be fine," he smiled. "Hold on tight."
(Y/n) nods and wraps her arms around his waist. She rested her head on his back as he started the vehicle and took off. Aranea was in front, acting as their guide to Tenebrae.
Once safely at the train station, they left the snowmobiles behind and headed to the platform. The frigid air gnawed at their skin, their clothes hardly being enough for warmth. Aranea decided to leave Prompto and (Y/n) to contact Biggs and Wedge.
"Prom, take your jacket. You're shivering," (Y/n) said, attempting to take off the jacket.
Prompto shook his head and pulled the jacket back over her shoulders. "You only have that tattered dress on. I'll be fine."
"Alright," she sighs. The duo sat on a bench and snuggled up to each other for warmth. (Y/n) rested her head on Prompto's shoulder and sighed in content. "Do you think we missed their train?"
"I don't think so. It should be-"
The sound of a train whistle silenced them and they watched as the locomotive pulled into the station, coming to a complete stop. They stood from the bench and waited as people exited the train.
Finally, familiar faces stepped off the train. Prompto was the first to shout at them to grab their attention. The trio heard his shout and searched for where the blonde was. When they spotted him, the girl that was beside him caught their attention. Noctis recognizes immediately who it was and stormed over. (Y/n) smiled as her brother hugged her tightly. "You're alive!"
(Y/n) embraced her brother. "Prompto saved me. How much have I missed?"
"A lot," Noctis chuckled. Gladio and Ignis were just as shocked when they recognized the missing princess of Lucis. She was close to all of them before she was captured.
Once Noctis released his sister, Gladio was the next to hug her. "The whole kingdom thought you were dead."
"I'm not surprised. I also heard what happened to Insomnia and my father."
"I'm sorry, (Y/n)," Gladio said.
"You four are safe. That's enough for me."
(Y/n) moved away from Gladio and saw Ignis. His injured eyes didn't go unnoticed by the princess. "Your Highness..."
"Iggy, don't you dare start with the formalities." (Y/n) carefully wrapped her arms around him and hugged him. "Prom told me what happened in Altissia. If I were there, I could've healed your eyes before the scars had settled."
"I was prepared for the consequences and I shall live with them, (Y/n)."
She smiled and pulled away from Ignis. "Where are you headed to?"
"Gralea. We're getting the crystal back," Noctis stated. "And you're not coming with us, sis."
"What? But, I-"
"It's too dangerous, (Y/n)," Prompto said, interrupting her. "We can ask Aranea to take you to Cape Caem. Iris and Talcott are there, too."
(Y/n) wanted to argue with them, but she knew they were right. The princess wasn't skilled in combat and would only slow them down. "Alright. I'll head to Caem. It'd be nice to catch up with Iris and Talcott after so many years."
Gladio chuckled. "If they find time to stop hugging you."
(Y/n) giggled. "That's true. Both of them are huggers. I'll probably need someone to pry them off of me."
After their talk, Prompto and (Y/n) went to find Aranea. The ex-mercenary was with Biggs and Wedge by their airship. "What do you need?" The woman asked.
"Would you be able to take (Y/n) to Caem?" Prompto inquired.
Aranea glanced at the princess, who was holding the boy's hand tightly. "Is this what you want?"
"Yes. I don't wish to burden my brother and friends with my powerlessness. There are also people at Caem that I miss dearly."
"Alright. We'll leave in a few minutes."
Prompto's eyes widened a small fraction. "That soon?"
"We've got other refugees to tend to. Caem is one of the stops on the way to Lestallum," Aranea answered.
(Y/n) noticed the sorrow in Prompto's eyes when she peered at his face. "What's wrong?"
The blonde boy grabbed her hand gently and tugged her away from the ex-mercenary. Once they were out of earshot, Prompto released (Y/n)'s hand and wrapped his arms around her. "That's too soon..."
(Y/n) gingerly placed her hands on Prompto's back, scrunching up his shirt as she clutched the fabric in her hands. "Prompto, just promise to visit once everything in Gralea is over with. Hopefully, it'll only be a few days until we see each other again."
"I can't wait that long! I just got you back..."
"As much as I love you, I know my brother needs you more than me right now."
"Y'know, (Y/n), you could be a little selfish," Prompto teases. "As long as I've known you, you've never made a single selfish request."
"Trust me, I'll be plenty selfish when you return," (Y/n) giggles, pecking him sweetly on the lips. A grin crept onto Prompto's face at her words and he kissed her deeply. Morosely, their moment was ruined by Aranea calling out to the princess. The couple sigh melancholically before glancing at the woman. "Alright," (Y/n) calls back. She gave Prompto another kiss before pulling away.
As (Y/n) went to walk away, Prompto couldn't bear the thought of being absent from her side for only a few days, especially after what she had gone through. He grabbed (Y/n)'s hand, forcing her to stop in her tracks. The boy stared into her (e/c) eyes, begging in silence. The princess recognized the look, but she knew she couldn't give in to her desires just yet. "I'll be waiting for you in Caem. Don't keep me waiting too long, Prom."
Seeing (Y/n) melancholic but beautiful smile, Prompto nods. "I won't."
