Accidentally Saved

Chapter Twelve

Grace's POV

I sat in science class seventh hour and was freaking out.

The dinner was tonight.

I don't even know why Daddy invited him. I had told my family about Ian and about how he was at dinner the day we got partnered up, so why did they have to meet him? I mean, they already briefly did, but not in a get-to-know-you type of way.

I was awoken from my thoughts as the bell rang, signaling the end of class. I grabbed my books and backpack and practically sprinted to my locker. I shoved my un-needed items into the metal cage, slammed it shut, and ran down the hallway towards Kate's car. I had to talk to her as soon as I could.

"Whoa, whoa, what's the rush?" Kate asked as I ran up to her car.

"Ian's. Coming. O-over, for dinner, tonight," I panted. Her eyes widened.

"Why did you not tell me earlier?!" She yelled at me. I started to walk around the car to the passenger seat.

"It slipped my mind, I guess," I said, finally able to breathe normally again.

"Slipped your mind'," she said using air quotes. "I don't believe you." I sighed.

"Fine. I've been really nervous about it and it's been on my mind the whole day," I confessed.

"Well, let's get you home and find an outfit for you to wear then," Kate said as we drove off.

Kate and I were currently sitting in my bedroom, attempting to get me ready for the dinner with Ian tonight. I had been purposely telling Kate no to everything to try to stall a little bit.

"Grace, come on. I know you don't want to do this but your parents will kill you if you don't," Kate tried to convince me and put her hands on her hips. "We now have, an hour before Ian comes over" she said while checking the time on her phone.

"Fine, let's get this over with," I mumbled while getting up from previous position on my bed.

"Good girl," Kate laughed and shoved an outfit in my hands. "Try this on." I walked into my bathroom to change. I quickly stripped off my clothes from the day, pulled on Kate's outfit choice and walked out again.

"It looks good," Kate said, proud of her work. She had chosen a black and white vertically striped crop top paired with medium washed high-waisted jean shorts. She grabbed a pair of black ankle boot wedges and a beige over-sized cardigan to finish off the look.

"Me gusta," I laughed while looking in the full sized mirror and earning a look from Kate.

"This is no time for Spanish. I have to do your hair!" She yelled, grabbing my hand and dragging me into the bathroom. "You do your makeup so we can finish in time."

I tried to wear minimal makeup, considering I wasn't trying to impress anyone or anything. I did a little bit of contouring and highlighting on my face to add to today's makeup. On my eyes I put a shimmery champagne color on the lids and a tope color in the crease for definition. To top it off lined my eyes with a slight wing and applied my mascara. I looked up at my hair to see that Kate had loosely curled, completely down.

"I like it. Thanks K," I said, giving her a hug.

"My pleasure, as always," She said, faking a bow and sending us into a fit of giggles. "I should probably head out considering Ian will be here soon." she told me, going into my bedroom to gather up all of her stuff.

"Text me how everything goes and don't do anything stupid," Kate raised an eyebrow and pointed a finger at me.

"Me? Do something stupid? Oh please," I said sarcastically. She smiled, rolled her eyes and walked out the door with me following behind her.

"See you tomorrow, but I'll call you later tonight," I told her while giving her a hug.

"Remember: nothing stupid," She said and headed out the door. I headed back upstairs to my room and started to play my guitar until Ian got here. I started to zone out a bit until I was woken from my thoughts by the doorbell and Mom yelling upstairs.

"Grace! Ian's here!" My mom yelled. I sighed and set my guitar down on my bed.

Let the fun begin.
