Ian's POV

I met Grace's eyes sixteen times during the entire dinner, but I mean, no ones counting... right? The feeling I got when our eyes locked made me want to run up to her and crash my lips into hers, but I couldn't do that, I mean, I wouldn't want to have an audience for our first kiss, especially her parents, who obviously didn't approve of me. Besides I wouldn't even make it as far as hugging her, let alone kissing her...

I looked up from my plate at Grace and her dull blue eyes met mine again.

Seventeen.

"Well, we should probably wrap it up, seeing that it is 9:30 already," Grace's dad said, breaking me from my thoughts and nodding in my direction.

I smiled at him and Grace's mom and thanked them for having me over, I was getting pretty good at this manners thing.

"Thank you for coming over, it was nice to meet you! Grace, why don't you show him to his car?" Her mom suggested with fake enthusiasm and my heart leaped out of my chest. Alone with Grace? Ian you better not pass out... I told myself as I walked towards the door with her by my side.

I didn't understand this feeling I had when ever Grace was on my mind. I'd never given girls a second thought, even though I had a lot of them wanting to contribute to the 'dating a bad boy' cliche.

"I'm sorry if my parents or siblings were kind of crazy or anything," Grace said, breaking the silence between us as we stepped onto the porch. I just batted her apology away, saying they were nice and leaving out the 'I'd give anything for siblings like yours' part.

She giggled and smiled at me before looking down at her shoes and throwing us into another round of silence. I thought of something I could say to break it but before my lips could begin to form words I felt my alternate senses click in and my arm began moving. My hand placed itself on her chin, bringing her eyes up from the ground and placing them on mine.

What was I doing?

I began to lean in slowly and her eyes glistened with confusion and curiosity.

Abort mission, abort mission. I'm not ready for this.

Our lips brushed together sending sparks through my body.

What? That's never happened before...

Our bodies shivered from the sparks we created and as I leaned closer, trying to connect her lips with mine, I felt a new sensation.

My leg buzzed and some Blink 182 song blurted from in my pants. I swore under my breath as I plucked my phone from my pocket and pressed answer, not bothering to check the CallerID. My cheeks burned red as Grace stood there, looking as shocked as I did about what had just happened.

"What do you want?" I spat angrily into the phone, rubbing my neck and trying to stop the blush I felt from showing on my cheeks.

"Ian? Oh thank gosh..." The voice on the other end said.

"Who is this?"

"Oh sorry, It's Nathan Lyons, your neighbor. You need to come home right now dude, somethings happened at your house... It's your dad."

"Shit..." I breathed into the phone and covered the speaker with my hand to make sure Grace didn't hear anything Nathan said.

"I'm so sorry, I have to get home right now," I apologized, blushing even more. My dad had to ruin everything didn't he?

"It's okay, I'll see you Monday," she said smiling and I impulsively pulled her into a tight hug.

"That kiss will happen..." I breathed into her ear, fully aware of what I had just said. Her body shivered again and I pulled away, giving her a small smile and running towards my car.

"Nathan, man you still there?" I asked as I headed onto the highway, which would get me to my house in around five minutes.

No one answered for a while but after a long twenty seconds of waiting Nathan came back on the phone, he sounded really scared.

"Ian, are you close? Things are bad..." he sputtered into the speaker.

"Yeah man I'm pulling onto Kingman Street right-" I stopped talking into the phone as my mouth fell open. At least twenty police cars surrounded my neighborhood as I watched my obviously drunk dad be tased by some officer he had pounced on top of.

"Dad! Wait sir that's my dad!" I screamed. Jumping out of the car and running towards one of the many cops that stood in our driveway.

Why were there so many?

I had planned on coming back and seeing my dad soon, but not like this...

As I reached the first officer they were already hauling my unconscious dad into the back of the police car. I was so scared I couldn't force words out of my mouth, so all I said to the police officer was a bunch of mumbled gibberish.

"It's okay son," the guy, who's nametag read 'Turner' said, putting a hand on my shoulder. "You'll be staying with your neighbors for a few nights, after your fathers case been decided we will figure out what to do with you," he almost spat out at me.

Policemen usually didn't like kids from the wrong side of the tracks, like me. So, his tone of voice didn't surprise me.

"Let me see him," I demanded angrily.

"Not a chance punk, now get away from me," 'Turner' answered and opened the door to his car.

I was so angry I lunged at him, but a hand caught the back of my shirt and halted me from getting any closer to the snotty rich cop.

"It's not worth it McCarthy," Nathan said, letting go of my shirt as Turner and my dad drove off.

I turned back around to see most of the policemen had left my driveway and were driving back to the station. I looked into Nathan's eyes and felt mine begin to water. My dad was gone... He'd finally gotten arrested and I hadn't even been there for him. I'm a lousy excuse for a son, everything he said about me was right...

"Tell me everything," I sniffled as Nathan pulled me into an awkward hug as I started to cry, the tears running down my face like the dam of hurt, stress and sadness had been opened.

And for the first time in a long time I didn't let my bad boy ego take over and take the pain, I felt all of it and let myself cry, the first time I had since mom had died.
