Grace’s POV

“Get the fuck away from my girl,” Ian growled at Shane with steam practically coming out of his ears, and my heart swelled at the voice i never thought I would be so glad to hear.

Before Shane could react, Ian shoved his left shoulder away from me so he was parallel to him, and swung so hard I could hear the bones in his nose breaking from where I was stuck to the ground in shock.

“You little son of a bitch,” Shane said while wiping the blood off from where it was dripping down to his mouth. Catching Ian off guard, he swung his arm right into Ian’s eye. Before I knew it, the fight had escalated to where both boys were on the ground and swinging at each other as hard as they could.

Somehow, Ian had grabbed Shane by the shirt collar and lifted him off the ground, slamming him against the lockers.

“You ever touch her or even talk to her one more time, I’ll make sure you ever see the light of day from 6 feet under, you hear me?” Ian’s eyes burned holes into Shane’s and muscles were tense and shaking with anger.

“Y-yeah,” Shane said, clearly shocked at Ian’s sudden burst of adrenaline and lifting up against the lockers. Ian threw him on the ground next to him and sprinted down the hallway and out the doors leading to the parking lot.

Ian immediately rushed to me and wrapped me in a hug.

“Are you okay? Did he hurt you at all? I swear to God if he hurt you-”

“Ian, I’m fine, really,” I said, pulling away and looking at his nearly broken face.

“Ian,” I gasped. “We have to clean you up.” He wiped the blood off his face and grimaced in pain.

“I’m fine. Don’t worry about it,” Ian tried to convince me, but I wasn’t taking no for an answer.

“Come with me,” I said while grabbing his hand and dragging him to the nearest bathroom.

“No, no, no, I am NOT going into the girl’s bathroom, are you kidding me?” Ian shook his head with wide eyes.

“Yes you are, and I’m not taking no for an answer,” I told him and dragged him through the door. I walked inside with Ian holding my hand, when girls started yelling about a guy being in the bathroom.

“Out,” I glared at them and pointed at the door, where they scurried with their high heels clicking and clacking out the exit.

“Sit here,” I ordered Ian while I walked around the corner to the shelves where I found clean, folded towels. I walked back over to where Ian was sitting and watching me intently.

“Thank you for doing that earlier. I don’t know what would’ve happened if you hadn’t had come,” I thanked him while looking up from the sink where I was wetting a towel.

“He’s such a little shit. I can’t believe he ever would’ve done that to you,” Ian said while clearly getting mad again.

“Hey, hey, it’s over now, and what’s happened has happened. What matters to me is you showing up like an angel and stopping him,” I said and sent him a small smile. I started to wipe off the cuts and blood on his face.

“Ow,” he mumbled and screwed his eyes shut.

“I’m sorry but I have to clean these so they don’t get infected,” I gave him an apologetic look and continued to work around his face until they were all cleaned and there were no traces of blood left.

“You look… Better, I guess. The blood is gone and the cuts don’t look as bad,” I grimaced while he turned around and looked in the mirror.

“It’s a better job than what I would’ve done,” Ian smiled at me. I started gathering up the towels and mess that I made from around the bathroom when Ian interrupted the silence.

“Why do you put up with me?” He asked me.

“What do you mean ‘put up with you’?” I asked him.

“I mean, why do you hang out with me and stick around me even though you’ve seen almost every aspect of me?” Ian’s expression faded while asking me. I paused before answering.

“Ian, I never ‘put up with you’. I hang out with you because I love being around you. I don’t have to worry grades or anything anyone expects of me. I can just be myself around you and I don’t have stress about anything, I can be who I really am. You make me feel so.. so alive, and I’ve never felt that before with anyone. You send shivers down my spine and sparks through me when we touch, and you make me feel like no one ever has,” I confessed to Ian, never noticing how close we had drifted together.

Ian snaked his arms around my waist and pulled us together until our lips were merely inches apart.

“I’ve liked you since freshman year, and I never thought we would end up here. You make me crazy and I’ve never felt like this before, but fuck, I feel like I can’t live another second without you,” Ian said before pulling our lips together, moving together like puzzle pieces that were meant to fit perfectly together and sparks were flying like fireworks on the Fourth of July.

“Shit,” I whispered when we pulled away for air. Ian just smirked and pulled me in again.
