Grace’s POV

“So is Ian coming over to work on the project today?” Kate asked me the next day on the way to lunch.

“Unfortunately, yes. I’ll probably end up doing all of the work anyway. At least I can assure myself an A on the project,” I said, irritated.

“Maybe he won’t be that bad. Just because he’s a ‘bad boy’ doesn’t mean he’s a total asshole,” Kate tried to reassure me. I scoffed.

“Oh please. Have you seen the way he treats other kids, and even his teachers? I don’t even know how he’s still in school with all of his bad grades and well-deserved detentions on his file,” I countered as we walked into the cafeteria. “Oh, thank goodness they have Little Caesar's pizza today. I’m in desperate need of real food,” I laughed. Kate looked at me.

“I have no idea how you eat all that crap. It’s all grease and completely processed,” She said, giving me a look as she plucked some more greens from Lakeside’s all natural salad bar.

“It’s better than what they usually serve,” I shrugged, walking up to the lunch line. After I ordered, Kate followed behind me and we walked to our usual table; a two-person booth near the window.

“You’re lucky you have a good partner for your project. How am I supposed to write a biography about someone I barely even know?” I exclaimed, as we sat down.

“You’ll know more about me soon, babe,” a husky voice said behind me, causing me to nearly fall out of my chair.

“McCarthy! You almost gave me a heart attack!” I yelled at Ian, earning glares from other students in the cafeteria. He shifted over so he was now standing next to the table and in front of me.

“Oh, so now we’re on last name terms, Thompson?” He smirked. I just rolled my eyes in response.

“Well, McCarthy, you should know that I drive home from school with Kate, so you’ll be coming with us to my house,” I told him.

“Whatever. Looking forward to seeing you then babe,” He said to me, causing me to wince.

“Ugh you're a piece of work that no one wants to fix," I growled at Ian, annoyedly.

“Maybe that's why I need you. I’ll see you after school, babe,” He laughed and walked away. I just huffed, crossed my arms and turned to Kate, who was now wide-eyed.

“What the hell was that?” She exclaimed.

"Meet the person I have to deal with for two months," I said watching Ian's toned body walk away, with easy movements and muscles flexing as he walked away...

NO GRACE. STOP! I scolded myself in my head, yet again, letting my thoughts take me away.

“Where is he?! I have to be home in ten minutes! I have cheer today!” Kate yelled.

“How am I supposed to know? I figured he knew where we were meeting!” I responded.

“I swear, if I’m late to practice because of him showing up late, I’m blaming you,” Kate said, pointing a finger at me. I rolled my eyes.

“I’m sure he’ll be here soon,” I said, not exactly confident in my words. I looked over to see the doors of the main building slam open as Ian began walking towards us.

“Where have you been?! We’ve been waiting here for fifteen minutes!” Kate shouted at him, but he didn’t look taken back at all, which surprised me. Kate rarely got mad at anyone, and it was really scary if she did.
