Grace's POV
Finally, the dreaded day of homecoming had arrived. Kate had been there all day with me and had even put up with my crazy attitude and mood swings from angry to depressed to just downright confused.
"I don't know, Kate, I feel like I came on too strong. I mean, I practically yelled at him for not asking me to homecoming," I explained to Kate in frustration after filling her in on the whole situation with Ian for about the fourth time.
"Have you talked to him at all?" Kate questioned and sprayed my hair with heat protectant to get it ready to curl.
"No! And I've tried talking to him before but I've barely gotten anything in reponse," I huffed and fell back in my chair. "What should I do?"
"Well, you never know, tonight may open a new door with Ian," Kate smirked. She began to curl my hair while I was left to my own thoughts and trying to think through my feelings.
After hours of slaving away at our makeup and my emotions, which were all over the place, we were finally finished just before 6, when both Shane and Kate's date, Newton Sangster, would be picking us up at my house. We had agreed on no pre-homecoming dinners but rather just pictures before hand. Neither of us wanted to spend any more time with our dates than we had too. But I had to admit, Newton was pretty cute, but he was quite nerdy and not really Kate's type.
We both did one final look-over in the mirror and appreciated what we had spent hours doing. Kate's mid-thigh length, black dress hugged her perfectly. The back of the dress with a cut out and lace sleeves, both connecting at her collarbones; showing just enough skin to be classy and elegant. Her hair was curled to perfection with a teased poof in the back, and her nude wedges complimenting her attire perfectly.
My dress was the same shape of Kate's, but a lilac color to make me look slightly more tan, considering I was as pale as a vampire. The bodice of the dress was a mix of silver and lilac to contrast the violet flowy chiffon material of the bottom half. My hair was curled into a Lauren Conrad inspired updo and I paired some silver high heeled pumps to compliment the outfit.
"Damn, we look good," Kate said while fluffing up her hair and looking in at her reflection.
"We should probably head downstairs, they should be here soon," I said, my face clearly dropping at the thought of going with Shane. I tried my best not to break out into tears for the fourth time that day.
"Hey," Kate said, turning me and holding me by the shoulders. "You'll be okay tonight. Remember, if Shane does anything stupid or he makes you uncomfortable, I'll be right there to kick his sorry ass."
"Thanks for being such an amazing friend, Kate. I honestly have no idea what i would do without you," I told her and pulled her into a hug. "Oh and damn, we do look good," I teased and we both burst out laughing.
After we finished our giggling fit and grabbed our purses we began to head down the stairs just as the doorbell rang.
"I got it, Mom!" I yelled to her before opening up the door.
"Hey guys," I smiled at Shane and Newton and opened the door wider for them to step inside. Newt's eyes lit up when he saw Kate, but Shane's eyes just raked up and down my body, sending shivers down my spine and an uneasy feeling in my stomach.
"Oh, don't you all just look lovely!" Mom exclaimed before grabbing her camera and snapping a picture. "Now, let's take some pictures before you go."
We all lined up by the front door, Shane putting his hands on my waist and Newton doing the same to Kate. Shane's hands sent another set of shivers down my spine and made me want to get out of his touch as soon as I could so I could throw up.
