Grace’s POV
I stood in my walk-in closet with my hand under my chin, trying to figure out what to wear. Ever since I confessed my feelings about Ian to Kate yesterday, I’ve had the growing feeling to try and impress him. I know I should be myself, but I wanted to put more effort into what I wear. Liking someone makes you do some crazy stuff, I’ll tell you.
I sifted through my skirts and chose a chiffon-materialed pastel pink maxi skirt, paired with a simple white crop top with two small cut-outs on either side. I chose my favorite woven gladiator sandals to dress it up a little bit. Moving to my vanity for makeup, I did my usual look but exchanged the light tope in the crease for a darker brown and a bright pink on my lips. I was happy with what I saw so I made my way into the bathroom to do my hair.
Wanting to do something different, I plugged in my curling iron and sprayed heat protectant in my hair. I grabbed bigger pieces of hair, curling it in beachy waves to make it look better than my usual messy bun.
Pleased with how my look turned out, I grabbed my bag and headed downstairs to eat breakfast.
“Morning, honey,” Dad greeted me. I was still pissed off at them about what they said yesterday but I knew I couldn’t hold a grudge for very long.
“Morning,” I responded with a small smile while pouring a bowl of cereal. I sat down at the table and pulled my phone out to check my twitter. The only accounts I ever really check are the 5SOS boys’ and they 5SOS main account, and maybe a couple friends’. After finishing off my bowl and checking the time, I saw that it was time to go pick up Kate.
“Well, I’m going to head out. I’ll see you when I get home,” I waved to my parents.
“Wait, Grace,” Mom stopped me. “Be careful around Ian, okay?” she said with a worried expression on her face. I rolled my eyes.
“Mom, I’ll be fine,” I snapped said while nearly slamming the door behind me. I still can’t believe they have the nerve to say that to me after what happened yesterday.
I hopped into my BMW and put the key in the ignition before leaving to go pick up Kate. Once I got there I honked the horn with Kate coming out moments later.
“Morning,” I greeted with a smile.
“Well, well, someone’s looking fancy today,” Kate raised her eyebrows at me after eyeing my outfit. “I’m guessing for a certain boy?”
“It might be,” I smirked and began to drive off to school. We blasted 5 Seconds of Summer on our way there, our usual routine, but I wasn’t really paying attention because of something else I was thinking about. We pulled into the school parking lot and I could feel my heart thumping in my chest and my palms getting sweaty.
“What if he doesn’t like me back? What if he’s too freaked out by my family?” I blurted while sitting in the car in a parking space. I had had these thoughts in the back of my mind ever since I woke up and they were driving me insane.
“Hey, you don’t have anything to be nervous about, okay? Remember yesterday and our little experiment..” Kate trailed off while noticing my left leg bouncing up and down and my fingers tapping the steering wheel. “Let’s just see how today goes, and come talk to me if you need another pep talk,” she smiled at me while placing a hand on my shoulder.
“Yeah, you’re right,” I sighed.
“Well, I always am,” She joked while placing a hand on her chest. “You ready?”
“Yeah, let’s go,” I gave her a small smile before grabbing my bag from the backseat and stepping out into the sun. We walked side by side in silence into the building, ignoring the stares, and headed into English. Just as we sat down, the bell rang signalling for class to start. I quickly glanced around the room and to my dismay, Ian wasn’t there. He’s probably just late again, I thought, going on with the rest of the class and waiting for a certain someone to come through the door.
---
“Have you seen him today?” Kate asked me while we walked into our last hour of hell: science class.
“No, I wish he was here though,” I told her while my mood seemed to dampen. Ian hadn’t even shown up to school which made me nervous for some reason. He hasn’t even texted or called me all weekend besides the time when Kate forced me to text him first. Even though he was wasn’t the best kid at school, Ian never ditched a day of school. I thought back to the dinner and remembered Ian’s call right when we almost kissed.
“Maybe you’ll see him tomorrow,” she shrugged her shoulders as we sat down.
“Yeah, maybe,” I mumbled. I spent the rest of class thinking about what could’ve happened. Maybe it was something with his parents, I thought to myself while remembering how his expression always turned cold at the mention of them. Still, something inside of me was telling me that I should go see him.
Before I knew it, the bell had rang, signalling to us that school was over. I walked out of the classroom with Kate towards our lockers when I saw someone I knew could help me. After quickly getting everything I needed for homework out of it, I slammed my locker shut and threw my backpack over my shoulder.
“Hey, I’m gonna get a ride from someone else. I’ll call you and explain later tonight,” I told Kate while walking over to the oblivious boy at his locker.
“Don’t do anything stupid!” She yelled out to me while I was walking away.
“Hey, I need a favor” I asked once I got to him.
“Uh, who the hell are you?” he asked me in a harsh voice.
“My name’s Grace. Now before you say anything, I need to explain,” I started. “I really need to talk to Ian since I haven’t heard anything from him for the past four days besides once briefly but it’s really important. So...Can you help me?” I rambled.
“I still don’t know what you want me to do,” Jace raised an eyebrow at me with his tone softer than before.
“Can you drive me over to Ian’s? I don’t know where he lives and I figured since you’re really good friends with him and all,” I trailed off. He let out a sigh before answering.
“Come with me,” he beckoned while turning to walk down the hall with me at his side, out towards the parking lot.
