After collecting her suitcase, Jane grew even more nervous as CCG officers stood beside metal detectors, or so she thought. They were Rc cell detectors. As she stepped through, a wave of nausea took over her head, even if she had nothing to worry about, she was of course human. Yet, this only reminded her of what she was walking into. Everything would be worse than before and she knew nothing about everything.
"Janey!!" A voice suddenly exclaimed as she passed the detector. That's when she was engulfed in a literal, breath taking hug. Once she looked up, she recognised the curls of blonde.
"Oh my God! Amber!" She cheered, hugging her back with a smile that ached her cheeks. Despite the huge age gap of eight years, the sisters got on like best friends. And even if from time to time Jane would steal her tops or use her new make up, they forgave each other. It was natural after a full blown argument.
"I can't believe you're here" Amber smiled as she pulled away, crushing Jane to her side as she took one of her bags.
"Yeah, dad was so close to calling you up and saying I couldn't make it",
"Well, I'm glad he didn't".
Once they exited the airport, Amber helped Jane to the car park to load her bags into the trunk.
"So how's the job?" Jane asked her as they pull onto the main road.
"Fine. All the kids are so smart and they work so well",
"Are you saying I'm going to be a brat?",
"Technically" she teased before punching at Jane's shoulder playfully.
"And what about... You know" she continued, twirling her thumbs in the process. Amber could clearly see the anxiety brewing in her stomach and she didn't ignore it.
"If you follow my rules nothing will happen. How do you think I lasted so long?",
"Sheer luck" Jane mumbled,
"No... Now listen, these are important-" she began with a serious tone, acting more like a mother than a sister, "- rule one, you have to come straight home from school",
"I do that anyway, it's not like I have friends",
"Rule two, you don't talk to strangers, under any circumstances. If you do, always keep your guard up and lastly-" Amber released a deep breath, "- lock your bedroom door and window after eleven at night".
"Why would I have to do that?" Jane wondered with a confused expression.
"I don't want to scare you... But, some ghouls sneak into their victims rooms and attack them when sleeping...-" with that announcement, Amber turned to see the fear coating her sister's features. Therefore, she changed her tone drastically "- you don't have to worry though, there are bars on the windows, it won't feel like prison if you pull them aside. Plus, you'll forget all about once you meet the girls in your class",
"Wait! I'm in your school?" Jane asked,
"Of course, and I chose the perfect girls to show you around" she smiled and with that, Jane replied with a sarcastic cheer.
⦿
"So this is your room, all snug and cozy" Amber smiled as she placed her hands at her hips. She could tell Jane was reluctant to make herself at home. Especially, as she looked outside to see the sun slowly fall across the western sky.
"I know it's not much-",
"No-" Jane interrupted, "- it's perfect, don't worry about a thing".
"Great, then I'll leave you to sleep, you must have terrible jet lag",
"Yeah... But, I think I'll stay up for a little longer, so I can just get my sleeping pattern right" Jane announced and with a slight smile and nod of her head, Amber left her sister to get comfortable while she marked the pop quizzes she gave out earlier that day.
