They walked silently with their shoulders barely brushing against the cold air of night. However, it had never seemed awkward to Jane. She was used to the silence which enveloped her. It was weird for Yomo in fact because of this.

From afar, the blonde ghoul would watch her accompany Uta with a constant smile reaching from ear to ear. Her chatter never ceased to go on or make his friend laugh. She had something about her back then that had clearly evaporated from the woman before him. Did she grow up? He thought, not knowing that wasn't exactly the case.

Being kept in a bed, feeling like you are constantly underwater. Jane wasn't allowed to grow up but kept moving on anyway.

"Isn't the fourth Ward too dangerous for a small girl like you?" He began before turning to her slightly. He saw her tight grip on the skirt and the slight trembling of her shoulders.

"I just got here this morning" she mumbled,

"So you haven't entirely looked around Tokyo",

"No, I believe my fear of ghouls restricts things like that" she lowly chuckled.

"Well, I see where Uta was coming from".

At those words, Jane walked a few steps further to only stop and later realise what he had said.

"What did you just say?" But when she turned for the answer, he was gone and Jane was before her sister's apartment. She knew to expect the shouting and hollering yet, all that was on her mind was his name. Yomo was something familiar until she recalled where she heard it... Uta.

It was already one in the morning. She must've had countless missed calls and angry texts. However, nothing could stop her feet from running forward. Even Jane's mind was curious as to what she was doing. Nothing could spur such an action.

It had her blood pumping, her heart thumping and her thoughts muddling with the mystery. The world opened like a treasure chest before her and Jane's memories flooded through with an unkind disregard.

In the night the padding of her pumps against the concrete echoed through the dark, splashing at the evaporating puddles of yesterday's rain. The sky was a canvas of the navy sea with droplets of bright, white light. She wondered if Uta could could see farther back then, maybe hear closer and feel so much more. The monster who plagued her mind was suddenly so mysterious while she ran.

Jane could recall his blonde hair falling from the Alice band and those strong arms which would envelope her small form. He was perfect despite the ghoul aspect of his life... She knew he ate people, Jane was sure of it. But now that she thought of it, remembering the horrific stories her dad had told at the dinner table. Did she really hear the malice laced with his fatherly tone?

Uta must've had a family, someone he needed to shield from the outside world. And she could only scream and cry before running back to England.

Jane Fraser was a coward, an ignorant girl who shouldn't have gotten involved with a person like Uta in the first place.

The promises she had made, that were the base of their relationship were broken in a matter of seconds. Yet, how could he blame her? The scene she had witnessed before her was far from appropriate.

Uta held nothing against her. Years later did he place himself in Jane's shoes. How watching her ghoul boyfriend clean a human carcass of its organs and limbs wasn't the best way to break out his secret.

While he sketched a new mask idea for the Kenaki boy that had visited. He had desired to see his kakugan more considering it was always behind a bandage. He was too tired of humans however, he couldn't deny the interest he had in their culture, especially the various foods provided.

Suddenly, a sharp knock sounded against the entrance door, bringing Uta from his work and ultimately, his intrusive thoughts.

The ghoul was going to leave it, go back to his work due to the already closed shop. But, the banging was consistent until it constantly rang against the wood of the door. Any being would find the noise unbearable. Therefore, he reluctantly pulled himself from his chair with a stretch before opening the door.

His eyes were hooded yet, still visible for anyone to see. He was overcome by fatigue from work and only wanted to finish his newest project. He wasn't interested in what surrounded the city's nightlife.

"Hello Uta" a familiar voice then spoke.
His eyes widened before looking up to see caramel locks and a face that was well known. Once upon a time he would stare at it forever and nothing had changed. It was still Jane, she was still human.
