Jane watched the people walk under her window. With her arms crossed upon the pane and her face straight in contemplation, she didn't realise the shadow watching over head. He observed her every movement, even the flicker of her hazel eyes.

Something which was so unlike him was happening. He became... he didn't exactly know. Obsessed wasn't the right word. However, it was similar.

"Jane!" Another voice called and that's when he knew her name. But, once he blinked, She was pushing a small door of bars across the window before pulling down the shutter. She was anxious and he could tell easily. The beat of her heart, her frantic shallow breaths when she heard the screams coming from the dark. Jane was so small and so innocent. Different from anything he had ever seen before.

But, being human meant a whole different story was set out for them.

"So do you have an answer now?" Asked a voice suddenly, causing Jane to jump as she reached the station's entrance. That's when she looked to the ally way nearby which hid the handsome boy in the shadows.

"You know you could give me a heart attack" she breathed out with a hand placed upon her chest.

"The danger's all in the smile" he smirked, walking calmly over with his glasses hiding his eyes efficiently. And with the lack of distance he threw an arm over her shoulders.

"Hardy ha ha" she said in mock laughter, not realising the smile that curled at the edges of her lips. Therefore, with the contagion of her cheerful mood, Uta couldn't help but mirror her genuine expression, with genuine motives.

"So... Did you make your decision?" Uta questioned, holding her closer as they descended the stairs.

"Think of this as an assessment, you show me your usefulness and I'll decide-" Jane announced, "- It only seems normal considering I don't even know your name",

"Uta...",

"Hmm?",

He sighed deeply, "that's my name...".

"I'm Jane".

"Uta and Jane-" he tested on his lips, repeating it far more in his mind, "- Sounds perfect".

"No, I think Jane and Uta sounds better. Ladies first after all" Jane added with a cheeky expression coating her natural face. Along with her toothy smile and soft brown hair, he saw the small freckles hiding in constellations upon her skin. He thought they were special as they painted the bridge of her nose and cheekbones.

"Here's the train!" Jane squealed, as a gust of wind pulled her hair into a wave of brown, unappealing and awkward, yet it made her giggle either way.

Despite being around the stranger and living in the fourth ward, she smiled. And in no way could Uta understand the easy feeling that radiated from the young girl.

When they moved on, taking any carriage available, Uta felt his body tense as men and ghouls alike watched her step onto the train. He knew already that her scent was addicting, causing his mouth to uncontrollably water. Especially, when his arm was wrapped around her.

The way his hand gripped onto her hips, keeping her in place as she leant against him. Jane could practically feel the white heat erupting under her flesh, how goosebumps plagued her skin and the way the blood rose to her cheeks.

"Are you comfortable?" He asked before she buried her head into his chest.

Many around them were awestruck, taking glances from the corners of their lashes, hiding their curiosity as best as they could.

"Yeah-" she smiled up at him, "- Safe now that you're here",

"I hope so. I am giving up five days a week to walk you to that hell hole" Uta chuckled.

With that, Jane released a smile giggle that caused his heart to clench. She could hear the thumping clearly, like a song with his shallow, warm breaths, his whole body had her trapped in a state of serenity.

"Back in England, the schools were terrible. Not like they are here. People here are actually quite nice. However, I felt safer there",

"Sounds surprising, doesn't England have ghouls?" he scoffed,

"Of course, but there are Rc cell detectors in loads of places, like banks and police stations and trains, which is surprising",

"What does that do?",

"Makes people wary, cautious of them because we are aware. Plus, the dead that are not collected are given to a facility which feed ghouls. It's a great system and I recommend it here",

"Yeah right" Uta then spat under his breath, trying to regain control as his body buzzed with frustration. For some reason, her words bothered him significantly.
