The Thirty-First Memory

The first day of college was about as good as a first day could be. We had one class together, and that was General Chemistry. We also had lunch at the same time, and then two hours in between classes off at the same time.

"Do you want to eat lunch at my dorm or yours?" I asked, and you shrugged your shoulders.

"Either works. Mine's kind of dirty though. My roommate isn't the cleanest."

I laughed. "Mine it is."

When we got up to my room, I made my way to the kitchen area that we had set up. It was actually just a mini fridge with a microwave on top of it, and then next to it a toaster oven.

I found leftover pizza from when my roommate and now best friend, and I had gone out to eat last night and slid a few slices on a plate before sliding it in the microwave for one minute. When it was down to one second, I pushed the button that would open the door and cleared the time before grabbing the plate and coming to sit down next to you.

"Today had been very overwhelming," I said before taking a bite out of a slice.

"I know! My next class after this is in building three and I have no idea where that is."

I held my finger up to tell you to give me a second. After I swallowed it, I spoke. You know where the building that General Chemistry is?"

You had some pizza in your mouth, so you nodded. "It's to the right of that building.

You kept your mouth closed but made sounds that sounded like, "Thank you."

I nodded and took a bite myself.

Soon, we finished eating, but we still had a while before you had to go back to class. I'd have another hour before I'd have to make my way to Fundamentals of Composition. We decided to put on a movie, and per your request (not that I complained), we watched High School Musical 3.

"I see it now," you mumbled.

I paused the movie and turned to you with furrowed eyebrows. "What do you see?"

When you met my gaze, it looked like you hadn't been sure if you'd said it out loud. "I understand why he'd go all that way for her."

"Enlighten me on this realization."

"He loves her. He loves her so much that he would do whatever he could to be with her."

I smacked the back of your head. "That's exactly what I told you, like, three years ago!"

You brought a hand to where I had whacked you and rubbed it gently, but I knew you were just doing it for my sake. You must have known that I was about to give you a whole speech on this topic because you looked at your wrist, which did not have a watch on it, and said, "Oh, would you look at the time! I'm going to be late for my next class! Don't watch without me, bye!" While you were speaking you had been making your way towards the door, and as soon as you finished the door was closing a little harder than necessary. I sighed but smiled nonetheless.

Because everything you ever did only made me fall for you a little harder.
