"I'm muting myself as I pee," I said, pressing the button that makes my end go silent.

"Whatever. But you better unmute me when you look at the results."

When I finished, I flushed the toilet and set the stick you had bought me, along with three others and a toothbrush, on the counter so it could sit still for the five minutes it required. I grabbed a timer that I had stolen from the kitchen and set it for five minutes and thirty seconds, just to be extra safe.

I had asked you to buy the electronic test so I wouldn't have to try and make out how many lines there were.

"Okay," I said, letting Emlyn know that she could hear me now.

"Good, but now we have to wait."

I heard you knock on the door. "You okay in there?"

"Yeah! Just waiting five minutes!"

You opened the door and walked in, leaning against the far wall to where you couldn't see the test, but you could still see me. When you noticed I had Emlyn on the phone, you said, "Girls are weird."

"You know it!" Emlyn shouted.

"I had her muted!" I said at the same time.

The three of us stayed in silence for the rest of the time.

Finally, after what felt like years of waiting, the kitchen timer I had set went off.

When I didn't move, Emlyn said, "What are the results?"

"I don't know," I whispered.

"Well, look!"

I ignored her and turned my gaze to you. "Do you want a kid?" I asked hopefully.

You nodded. "I do."

"What if I can't give you a child?"

"Then we'll find another way."

"Okay!" Emlyn shouted. "Please look before I fly down there and find out for myself!"

I sucked in a deep breath and closed my eyes, finding the test and gripping it over the screen. I peeled my eyes open and then looked down before removing my hand.

Pregnant.

I stayed silent.

"What does it say?" You and Emlyn asked together. I knew if she was actually here you'd be glaring at her.

I stayed silent for a few more seconds before looking up into your eyes, and then grinning widely. "I'm pregnant."

And then you were spinning me around in your arms, I was crying tears of joy, and Emlyn was screaming on the other end of the phone.
