"Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday, dear Laura! Happy Birthday to you!"

Laura grinned and closed her eyes for a minute, before blowing out the candles.

She got up out of the chair to let Ruby cut the cake and walked over to us. "Happy Tenth Birthday, baby!" You picked her up and spun her around, making her laugh.

"I'm not a baby, Dad!"

You sat her down and I smiled at how big she had gotten. "You're always going to be my baby."

Laura rolled her eyes, but smile anyway.

"My turn!" I pulled her towards me and squeezed.

"Mom! I can't breathe!" I squished her tighter for a split second and then let her go.

"And now, for the best person on the planet..." I heard Emlyn say, but I couldn't locate her.

Laura finished her sentence. "Aunt Emmy!"

Emlyn jumped out from the mudroom. "Bingo! Happy Birthday, bestie!" She and Laura did there secret handshake, which seemed super complicated and hard, yet they both did it like it was singing the ABC's.

"Hey! I thought I was your bestie!" I pouted.

"Sorry," Emlyn said, "But the youth keeps me young. You've got him, anyway." Emlyn nodded her head towards you, and I turned to see that you were staring at me.

"What?" I asked.

"You are so beautiful."

I blushed, and Laura yelled. "Ew! If you guys are going to kiss, go do it in your room."

You shrugged and grinned, grabbing my hand and pulling me away. When we got up to our room, you sat down on the bed, and I sat next to you. You kissed me once, and then pulled back, saying, "I'm so proud of you."

"Why?"

"Because you raised that girl for ten years."

I laughed, shaking my head. "You did it, too."

You shrugged your shoulders. "I mean, you punished her, unlike me. I'm terrible at that when it comes to her. But somehow, you would stay strong and do it."

"It was hard," I agreed. "But sometimes you have to do hard things if you don't want your kid to grow up to be a spoiled brat. Besides, you punished her, too."

"Not as much as you," you insisted.

"I smiled and shoved your shoulder. "That's because you're weak."
