This morning, I was up before you. I was way too excited to be asleep any longer. Before I woke you up, I threw up, showered, and then made breakfast. I decided that for this very special day, I'd be delivering right to you.
I carried it up the stairs successfully, and pushed the door open gently, a soft creak sounding. I tiptoed to the bed and sat the tray down on your end table before shaking you gently, making you wake up slightly. "I made you breakfast," I whispered.
You opened your eyes but it looked like you couldn't really make sense of everything around you. I tried helping by adding, "It's gender reveal day."
I watched recognition flicker through your eyes before you smiled widely and sat up, grabbing the tray next to you. I walked over to my side of the bed and sat down, grabbing my phone and playing on it while I waited for you to finish eating. I had already eaten downstairs, but you still insisted on giving me two of the three pieces of bacon sitting on your plate.
Soon, you were out of the shower, but we still had fifteen minutes before we needed to leave.
"When is the appointment again?" You asked, slipping a shirt over your head.
"It's at ten."
My leg was shaking up and down, but I couldn't stop it from moving.
And then I felt it. A little kick. "I felt it," I whispered, placing a hand on the spot I felt a movement.
Your head snapped up when you registered my words and actions. "The baby moved?"
"It kicked me. Is it normal to feel kicks so early?"
You pulled your phone out and checked. "It says you can feel them as early as sixteen weeks, and this is your seventeenth, so yeah."
There it was again. "Come here," I said, hoping you'd be able to feel it. I put your hand right where mine had been a few minutes ago. Almost immediately, I was kicked for the third time.
"I felt it," you whispered, looking at my stomach with awe. The little thing inside me didn't kick again, and I knew it must have been as tired as I felt.
You stood up from where you had been kneeling and grabbed my hand, helping me stand as well. "Don't want to be late. I want to find out what this little kicker is."
I giggled and we headed off to your car, and I could barely contain my excitement.
You and I were in the office, and I was getting cold gel spread across my stomach. I winced at it, and the doctor smiled apologetically. You were holding my hand, and I was waiting impatiently for the doctor to tell me what I was carrying.
It took a few minutes, but finally, an image appeared on the screen and the doctor looked at it closely before turning to us. I held onto your hand tighter.
"Are you two ready to know the gender of your baby?"
"Yes!" We said together.
"Well, I'd like to be the first to congratulate you two on your- healthy- baby girl."
