Chapter 24 - In The Red Bandanna

"Taz! You're a Starship Ranger!" Parker ran to her and hugged her tightly and she hugged back.

"I guess I am a Starship Ranger."

"Yes, Lieutenant." He smiles and solutes.

"You don't have to do dat." She chuckles at his movement, putting his arm down.

"Congratulations, Taz." James said giving her a handshake.

"Thank jou, James."

Random people and teachers came up to her throughout the night congratulating her. Everyone seemed to be super supportive about it of what she knew, but there were always people hating.

Up and Taz walked back to their dorms together as usual and Up spiked up a conversation, "Hey Taz..." he started.

"Yeah, Up?" She looked to him.

"Want to come live with me?" He asked.

"What?" She asked a little confused.

"I said, do you want to share a room? So you don't have to be with those roommates of yours anymore. The sign that says 'Commander Up and Lieutenant Taz' on the door so people know where we are at all times."

"I would love to do that but—is that even allowed?"

"I'm the commander, it is now!" He laughed.

"Then yes!" She smiled with a chuckle. Up chuckled to himself, "What?" She asked.

"I think you've got a soft spot now, you smile in public a little wider than you ever have."

"Do not..." she says slowly.

He just chuckled with his bright smile, "You're my little toughy," he says once they get to the door, "that's why you're my lieutenant." He smiles.

"Thanks, Up." She gives him a hug.

"Thank you." He smiles hugging her back.

With that she bid a farewell and went into her room where her four roommates yelled, "Congratulations!" And popped out of no where that scared her a bit.

She put up her fits when she jumped, "Holy Shit!" then put them back down, "¡oh dios mío! What de hell is wrong with—"

She noticed how excited they were and a small baby cake they had bought from a store, "Congrats Taz!" said Abby happily, "I know you've always hated us but we all knew you didn't mean it. We're so happy for you Taz and here is our small congrats party!"

"Yeah, like we've gotten to know you these past few years and that's really cool... alongside joking around with you about Up." February smiled.

"Gracias...?" She said slowly.

"We all haven't been too close but it was great having you here Taz, I don't know how I'd understand what these two talk about of it wasn't for you." Said Specs and Taz actually appreciated her comment.

"Well, lets have cake shall we?" Abby adds in.

"Dat's pretty small..."

"It's for four people. We cut it into fours and we all get a square!" February laughs.

"Thanks... jou guys have been pretty okay roommates." Taz nods to them.

They sat around eating cake and talking they soon came up to the topic of the new Commander Up.

"Don't even ask me again jou idiotas..."

"Come on. It's been like half a year sense we last asked." Abby sighed.

"And my answer still hasn't changed." Taz lied for the millionth time.

Her mind hasn't changed, she had realized feelings for him once he had got back from that trip so long ago. The thought of not being with him, losing him, made her sick. Just like her family, she missed and longed for them each day at the academy. When she walked up that stage and accepted that badge her only thoughts were of her family and that she was doing it for them. She is in her brother's place, her father's place, making them and her whole family proud.

"You sure?" February urged.

"I'm sure, February." Taz said strictly.

"You never did tell us how long ago you and Up met... you said you go way back... can't you tell us now?" Abby asked hopefully.

"Uh—um—"

"You can trust us." Specs said.

"You always can." February adds in.

"Jou all really want to know?" Taz said annoyed, but their faces were stern with curiosity. "Fine." She sighed.

"Jou all know, I started here at de academy when I was fifteen... bent the rules a bit but dat's what I had to do." She said plainly looking down. "So, the day right before de school year started, it just happened to be my birthday, my Quinceañera.

"I met Up at my party sense my father was a Starship Ranger alongside him..." she paused, "Uh-um... I'll give you de short version, robots attacked. Everything was destroyed and everyone was gone... besides me and Up. We were de only survivors and I was supposed to be sent to an orphanage. We talked to Spaceclaw and he let me train and here I am, three years later, graduating early from de academy at seventeen to only turn eighteen next school year."

"Wow..." February breathed.

"Up saved my life. From meeting dat one day, I lost everything and he was de only thing I had besides an old picture..." Taz looked at their sorry faces, "don't pity me, I just told jou want jou wanted to hear."

Abby hugged Taz, even knowing she didn't like hugs(from some) and February joined in as Specs did as well. In a huddle they hugged and Taz looked down as they embraced her.

"I'm so sorry Taz... you'll always have me." Abby said calmly.

"And me." Specs added.

"Always me." February said and cuddled in.

"Muchas Gracias..." Taz paused, "I don't even know why I told jou guys dis—" she thought, "I-I guess it's just 'cause I've left it a blank slate for a long time... but—don't tell anyone dis story, I don't feel like having people pity me."

"We won't tell." Said Abby, assuring February not to tell.

"Promise." Said February.

"Who would I tell?" Specs laughed, "you guys are the only people I know close enough to being a friend of mine."

They all chuckled at her statement as she complained it was true. They all kept talking and eating. Somehow, Taz was able to stand them only this one time, she didn't know how, but she could. Maybe being the Lieutenant gives you a power boost... and knowing that she doesn't have to stay with them ever again.

For she would remember the annoying one, the smart one, and the supportive one, but they would always remember the girl in the red bandanna.

A/N: I've got my updating game up great right now! Hopefully we'll finish the story by the end of the summer! Who knows? Well, anyway, I hope you enjoyed this chapter, it wasn't one of my bests, but hey, it moves the story along.
