I just looked at the ceiling.

I didn't sleep a wink last night. My mind wouldn't shut up. I was fighting with myself. I cant possible be blackmailed by a stranger but I want to find Elly. I can't reveal things about my friends but I can't lose them ether.

It would be different if I could just find this guy and beat the shit out of them but I'm afraid that's not the case. I haven't opened that letter yet. I'm afraid to see what's inside. It's wrapped up in my jacket so Lucy doesn't see it. I could see the sun starting to shine in through the window. I groaned. I needed to be at the cafe... like a hour ago. I rolled off the couch still wrapped up in my blanket and wandered to the kitchen. I opened the fridge to see nothing of interest. I wasn't hungry today.

I closed the fridge and flopped back onto the couch just as Lucy walked through the hallway looking like she just woke up.

"Well you look like shit.." she walked into the kitchen and started making food.

"Feel like it to."

"Did you sleep well?"

"Sleep? What's that." She frowned.

"You need to sleep. You can't function without it."

"Time to test that theory."

"Devin..."

"Yeah?"

"Your a growing kid, you need sleep and food. Eat and please get to work. Your already late and I don't want to hear you complaining about it later. The sooner you get up and get going the sooner you'll feel more awake. Take a power nap, drink some coffee." Super mom mode activate... wait what was the first part?

"What do you mean growing kid?" I sat up and looked at her. I could feel the bags under my eyes. She sighed and smiled at me.

"I did some research, normally when a soul is in the afterlife they age up normally like most people. Kids grow under the care of there parents. Kids who don't have parents tend to find foster family's and once they feel comfortable with there new parents they begin to grow again. Once they've found new parents. You've been hungry non stop because your growing. Your soar because your growing. You've probably gotten taller." I couldn't tell if I should be over the moon or worried. I guess I've been so used to being the shortest person in the room that I never thought about the chance of actually getting older.

And for those curious weirdos. Yes I've already gone through puberty. I'm from the 14th century. You grew up faster back then.

"That's... cool?" I was to tired to find big words.

"You still need to get up."

"Yeah mom, I'm moving." Sarcasm laced my voice. I rolled off the couch again. And hit the floor with a thud. I hit the ground harder that time. I groaned and got of the floor throwing the blanket at the couch. I looked at Lucy to see a loving smile on her face.

"See that wasn't so hard. Now you just need to change and walk to the cafe." She continued cooking...

I slowly moved and changed in the bathroom. I did put my jacket on today again so I looked decent. I made sure to bring the letter with me. By the time I was finished Lucy was just starting to eat breakfast.
