The morning was slow again. Lucy woke me up and I threw my ice packs in the freezer for the next time this happens. Sadly there will always be more fits like this. I've completely calmed down but I'm so angry I let it happen. Now the sins will know, there's no way I can keep something like this from them, it isn't morally right. I felt useless.
Lucy has to baby me when stuff like this happens and I feel like a burden to her constantly. Weather is something stupid I've done or something I wasn't able to do it makes me feel like a waist of her time. Why did she even save me. Why didn't she just kill me..
"Devin your tapping your fork..." we were sitting at the table in her 'dining room'. She made breakfast again and I hadn't touched my food.
"Sorry I'm just...lost in thought." I mumbled the last part.
"I'm afraid I couldn't hear you, mumbling is never a good thing. If something is on your mind saying it helps but it doesn't do anything if no one hears you. It's just as bad as holding something in." She shoved a forkful of food in her mouth.
"Yeah yeah, I just feel bad about the last two days..." I picked at my food.
"Don't."
"What? Why?"
"You've been a huge help. I actually have some free time and believe it or not I trust you to help control the sins. Somethings are always going to be my responsibility but I can always use help. Although if you can't pull all nighters without having to leave work then that needs to end." Oh my god she sounds like such a mom. She gave me and strong look and I nodded. "Everyone has bad days. These two were your first ever. So give yourself a break. Also, eat your food or suffer." She stood up and washed her plate. The tone was playful but I quickly ate anyways.
That boosted my mood.
The rest of the morning was back to normal. I mocked her gnome collection and she mocked my stature. After changing into work clothes we headed to the building. Everything seemed normal and I found that weird. I guess no one really knew about what happened yesterday... We made it to our floor and as soon as I sat down in my desk I saw seven heads peer around my door from all different places. It was comical looking.
"Get in here ya idiots." They all slowly walked in, looking around I saw many types of emotion. Lots of facades. "I'm okay thanks for asking." I tapped my paper.
"Well your still alive, what happened exactly." Envy chimed.
"Could you close the door?" She nodded and closed it.
"Some people may have guessed this but I'm not human. I used to be when I was alive but not so much anymore..."
"What do you mean not human? You look fine to me?" Anger spoke bluntly.
"I'm a demon." I got some interesting faces.
"Like a half demon? I've met a few of those, and there super unstable if they don't know what the heck there doing. Really strong too." Gluttony said.
"Nope, I'm a full 100% through and through demon. I just managed to get a really solid grip on it because of-..."
"Because of Lucy." Lust finished my sentence for me. I nodded. The room was quiet. "So that blood yesterday was caused by you?" The other sins were confused. I was ashamed.
"Yeah, something pushed me over the edge yesterday and I couldn't control myself. Lucy's wrist felt the effects of that. I didn't mean to hurt her by any means." I could see different reactions between all the sins. Pride looked angry but didn't speak.
"Is there anything else we need to know?" Envy seemed collected.
"I don't think so."
"Okay, well we should all get back to work. And we should all try to be at least a bit productive today instead of horsing around." She directed her statement at Pride.
They all left but Lust lingered a little longer being the last one to leave. I felt relived but heavier. I didn't want them to know but I need to get over it. It's something I can't change and I'll have to deal with for the rest of my life. It's so much easier to be a regular demon rather then a suppressed one.
You can go anywhere, do anything, and violence is so satisfying...
Anyways.
Work is a thing I need to do.
I powered through everything I needed to do. I still felt kind of off but is wasn't anything like the last few days. After finishing everything I headed down to the rec floor and hung out. The place was quiet for about a minuet before someone walked into the room who I had never seen before.
"Well hello, I don't believe I've ever seen you before. It's pleasant to make your aquantience." This guy looked older. His hair was brown with a lot of gray in it. He wore a comfortable yet formal sweater and dress pants with nice shoes. In his hand was a giant coffee cup. His voice was slower and relaxing. Like an audio book reader.
"Hey, I'm Devin. You new to the building?" I said nonchalantly. He looked pretty chill.
"Quite the opposite actually. I've been here sense the building opened. I'm an old friend of God and Buddha's. It's quite a long story." After he finished his statement he took a long sip of coffee. "I run the archives under the building. I keep everything, history, employees in the building, economy in the afterlife. It's all in the basement."
"Sounds tiresome." I gestured to the coffee.
"Oh you have no idea." He smiles. "I'm not going to lie. I read all the files on the new workers in the building but yours seemed rather short. Not even a last name."
"I don't remember a lot of the details about my past." That was a lie. I can remember it all in vivid detail. The man nodded slowly. He held out a hand.
"The name is Archimedes Fate." I shook his hand.
"It's good to meet you." I let go.
"Likewise."
The room was quiet as we ended the discussion. I really didn't have any questions for him and it's was a comfortable silence. Like all good things it came to an abrupt end.
"DEVIN!" Fauna screeched as she sprinted towards me. She slammed into me throwing us both across the room and into one of the tables set up with snacks. Food flew everywhere. Fauna sat up hovering above me covered in fruit from the table. "Oops"
"Ow, I'm afraid you've destroyed a perfectly good table and ruined my clothes." I whipped the fruit juice off my face as Fauna began to stand up. She held a hand out for me to grab and I took it. She yanked me off the floor and I picked the fruit off my clothes..."well now I have to go home and change."
"Awe. I'm sorry..." she pouted.
"You two make quite the ruckus..." I turned my head to see life enter the room through the open doorway. I've never really gotten a chance to talk to life. He's Fauna and Floras boss. He's seems like a nice guy. "Good evening Devin." He looked at the table and smiled humorously with a hint of confusion. "You managed to break a table? Maybe I should make a no running policy."
"Please?" I chuckled, Fauna elbowed my ribs.
"That is going to need to be replaced though." Life was a bit more stern but he meant fun.
"Yeah yeah, I'll get around to it." She picked a chunk of watermelon from her hair.
"I really need to go shower." I said looking at myself.
"If you done with work your behind free to go." Life laughed at fauna and I being covered in fruit. I smiled.
"Thanks."
I headed for the door taking off my juice soaked jacket.
"I'll see you around Devin." Ark toasted his giant coffee cup and I waved goodbye.
He seemed like a decent enough guy.
