Chapter 16

Maggie opened the door with a nervous look on her face and motioned for us to sit down on the bed

"Im guessing your going to want an explanation?" she asked as she sat down on the arm chair across from the bed

"Your guess is correct" I said with Monty nodding at my side

"We would love some answers" Monty added looking at Maggie with slight doubt

"As you may have noticed, Im Maggie. Alex sent me to find you two - which was pretty simple actually. You had half of this place chasing after you. All I had to do was follow alongside everyone" Maggie explained

"What were you doing with Emilia?" Monty asked thinking back at how Emilia had snapped at her, forgetting her name and demanding for things.

"Thats a completely different story, one that we dont have time for right now im afraid.To put it into simple term I own her a great debt and this is how I am repaying it."

"By becoming her slave?" I asked and Maggie grimced slightly 

"I didnt really have a choic"

"Everyone has a choice!"

"It doesnt matter. Whats done is done. This is not what I am here to talk about. Alex should be here soon to explain furthur but until then I will do my best" Maggie explained "How much has he said so far about his family?" she asked

"Not much" Monty said shrugging "I don't think its something he like's talking about"

"You are very right on that. Alex is very - how should I put this - Guarded. He rarely tells people about how he came to hate his brother and mother enough to betray them both. Im not in the possition to tell but Im guessing he didnt say much of his plan either did he?" She asked

"He sais something along the lines of 'All in good time'" I said and Maggie was nodding her like she had been expecting that answer

"Believe it or not, but he says that a lot" She said smiling fondly at the thought. "Anyways, so he didn't tell you much?" She asked once more

"No he did not" I said

"Then its my job I suppose. When you got here, Alex saw it as an oppertunity to make a change once and for all. He has faith that you will help us - though Im not sure how- If we help you. He says that you can help us make a change and maybe we could become alies or friends even. Help each other out, you know" Maggie explained

"Why does he think of us so highly" Monty asked "For a second there he looked at us like we were worth less than a piece od dirt"

"You probably are" Maggie said slowly, but not as an offense. I didnt take it as one.

"Then why does he have so much faith in us?" I asked her and she lowered her eyes

"I wish I knew. He thinks of you as a miracle, really. You came from the sky and to him its like one of the tales his father used to tell him when he was little, how he adored his father back then. He said that the tale metioned people coming from the sky and saving the prince who was in need and killed the bad guys and something like that." Maggie said

"He has faith in us because of a story he knew when he was little" I asked again. I simply couldn't imagine Alex when he was little dreaming about fairytales and night time stories. I just couldn't.

"Pretty much. Alex cherrishes these little things more than you would know. He believes in the things no one else does. I can't say it always works out, but most of the time, almost always he is right about these things. May it be a small bet on a race or the amount of carrots we would get for lunch, he is always right." Maggie said

"Do you believe him?" I asked " About us?"

"I don't know what to believe" She said unsurely

"What about Alex's plan? You said you would tell us about that" Monty mentioned and Maggie shook her head

"He should be here soon enough to tell you all about it himself. Its complicated but he can get you out if you help him. Im sure of it" She said and with we heard the door open

"Maggie?" Alex's voice cut through the silence

"In here" Maggie said before Alex apperead in the doorway "Its about time you explain, Alex"
