Something Alex may have forgotten to tell us was the fact that Henry was no longer sane.
Im sure that being locked up for years does that to people, but in this case how will we know if what Henry told us was true? or if it was something a voice whispered in his head
Alex prefers to think of thefirst option
"I know what falls he is talking about!" Alex insisted once we had returned to his room
"How do you know its not just the first thing that popped into his mind?" Monty asked, irritated
"The falls is where my father used to take me and Henry. It a waterfall not far from here. Ash must have hidden it in the cave behind the waterfall" Alex said. There was no way he was giving up " Listen, you wanted to get out of here in the first place! You come with us and even if the papers are not there, you can go and find a way to rescue the rest of your people! If the papers are there - and they are- then I can release you and your people. Either way you get what you wanted"
I could see Monty behind me consider our options, but there werent many.
"Can we talk alone?" I asked Maggie because I knew she could get Alex to leave
"What? I-" Alex started but Maggie cut him off
"Come on, Alex. Let the two of them talk" She insisted and she half dragged him out of ther door, leaving Monty and I alone in the room
"Look, Monty. I dont like this either but its our only choice!" I started
"We cant leave everyone here. Clarke! I thought you would have some sense! You know im never leaving without everyone"
"I know! You think I would?" I exclaimed and Monty slightly shook his head "Look, Alex was right. Either way this is the best option we have. I talked with Maggie, and she said something that stuck with me. How can we help them if we are trapped just like them?" I asked
Monty struggled with an answer but finally let out a sigh
"Ok, to the falls we go" he said hesitantly but I knew he wouldn't back out of it
"Good. Let's go then"
********
We had done it. We had snuck out
It wasn't that hard considering the fact that there were no guards or anything. I suppose that Ash figured we would have left by now and didn't see much loss. The exit was near our cells, it was like an emergence escape. It was in a small closer in a small room where we found the staircase that lead back to the surface.
The fresh air was amazing. Almost like the time when we first got here.
"Which way is it?" I asked while spinning around to treasure the way the trees looked, the way the cool breeze was around me. There is nothing better than that.
"This way!" Alex said pointing left.
They had returned shortly after Monty and I finished our conversation and Alex demanded that we head on because peopel were starting to wake up and he didn't want an unwanted travelers to join us.
Ash included
"How far is it?" Monty asked as we stepped over a fallen log
"Not that far actually. If we walk another 10 minutes we should he able to hear the water. It won't take long" Alex said as he lead the way
"You said it's where your father used to take you?" I asked
Alex sighed and Maggie placed a comforting hand on his shoulder. He didn't like to talk about his father much, but then again neither did I.
"Yes, we came here often. He would always threaten to throw me in the water if I misbehaved" he said smelling fondly at the memories
"You know my dad always said that if we ever got back down here on earth, he would take me fishing" I said softly, letting out a small chuckle " I never understood why he wanted so badly to fish, but I think is was something to do with all the books talking about fishing"
"Where is your dad now?" Alex asked
"He....uh... He didn't make it" I stuttered and Monty have me a sad look "He found out our ship was faulty and he thought the public ought to know. People disagreed and he was floated" I said but Alex gave me a weird look when I said floated
"He was killed" I confirmed and he bowed his head
"I'm very sorry to hear that" he said and maggie nodded beside him
I simply nodded and that was the end of that conversation
****
"How much further?" Monty asked. You could here the fatigue in his voice
"I told you five minutes ago. Not that long." Alex said the abruptly stopped in his tracks
"What? What is it?" I asked and Maggie and Monty started at him, waiting for an answer
"I think I heard something" He said silently, he out his finger in his lips and told us to stay silent.
"I think there's-"
He couldn't finish because someone had jumped on him from the bushes and had tackled him to the ground
I didn't get to see who because only moments later someone jumped me and I landed in the ground with a thump.
We rolled over and my attacker had me bound against the ground but before he hurt me I heard him let out a gasp
"Clarke!?"
