Safe wings

Chapter 17:

When we get to the hospital Lucas is taken to a room to get his leg looked at. My foots cut is deep and the doctor said I have to have crutches for two weeks. And I can't ride for two weeks. He then stitches up my foot and releases me.

I walk to the waiting room and then Lucas comes out with a slight limp.

"Hey how are you?" I ask.

"I'm fine the wound isn't deep because Lucy is pretty weak. It's just gonna be bandaged up for a while and I will have a small limp I'm fine. What bout you?"

"I have to have crutches for two weeks and no riding." I say with a frown.

Lucas offers a small smile then walks and pulls me to my feet. He hands me my crutches.

"Thanks." I say. He smiles and wraps his arms around my waist. He kisses my head. "I'm glad your okay." he says.

Then a woman bursts through the door. She narrows her eyes at us.

"These two! They stole my horse." she points. Mummy dearest stood with a cop behind her.

"What?" I ask. Lucas tenses up beside me and slightly pushes me behind him.

"They stole my palomino horse her name is Myra. They stole her about a week ago." she hisses. How long had she stalked us to know we bought Myra the week before at a horse sale?

"Is this true?" the police man asks.

"No sir, my uncle Austin bought that horse at an auction for his camp last week. We have the papers." I say hissing.

"May I see them."

"Yessir go out and see uncle Austin." I say writing our address down. The police man stares at me and then looks at mum.

"Well ma'am I will investigate. Have a good day" he says. Mum glares at me.

"You little brat."

"Lucas." I whisper as he tenses up more and clenches his fist at his side.

"You are both little brats" she says.

Lucas begins to raise his arm but I place one hand on his arm. "Lucas don't please." I say.

He nods and then shoves her backwards as we walk out.

After we leave the hospital, we find Josh to take us home.

"Guys what exactly happened?" Josh says. Lucas opens his mouth but I grasp his arm. I shake my head.

"Alyssa's not ready to talk about it." he says shortly. I nod.

Since we are two hours from town I carefully lay my head in Lucas's lap and he smiles down at me.

"You okay?" he asks.

I nod as I stretch across the backseat keeping my head still on Lucas's legs.

He smiles and then leans down to plant a soft kiss on my nose. I relax and fall asleep.

LUCAS POV

After we leave the hospital Josh asks what happened. I begin to tell him but before any noise can come from my mouth I feel a soft hand on my arm. I look to see Alyssa looking at me.

She shakes her head "no" I nod and then say "Alyssa isn't ready to talk about it" .

She nods and then lays her head on my legs. I smile and she stretches across the seats. I ask if she's okay only to be met by a nod. I smile down at her and then kiss her nose. I feel all tension leave her body and her eyes flutter closed. When her breathing steadies and I know she's asleep I lean and softly kiss her lips.

Josh sees this because he raises an eyebrow at me in the rear view mirror.

"Your the only one that will get her to talk ya know." Josh says.

"Josh, I love her. she's so beautiful, funny, sweet, and caring. But god, she can be so infuriating! and today if she would have gotten hurt I wouldn't know what to do with myself." I say as I run my fingers from the top of her hair all the way to the ends so that I can tug at it gently.

"Really? you love my sister?" Josh says.

"Yes but I just.... she doesn't deserve me when I'm leaving in a month and a half."

"Dude you have a chance. She doesn't trust easy."

"I know but.. she's just.. different and well I don't know I only have 45 days here."

"Yeah true."
