Safe wings

Chapter 5

After we go in and wash up I walk down to the kitchen. Matts mom is cooking so I begin talking to her while I wait for Matt to finish his chat with his grandad.

"So, What's up with you and Matt?"

"What do you mean??"

"How's your relationship? are y'all dating or what?"

"Umm I don't really know."

"Your obviously special to him."

"What?"

"Ever since his dad died he's never really reached out to anyone, his old girlfriend never came over and he never took her around the farm, and also, when his last dog died three years ago, he has pretty much hated dogs, I tried to buy him one but he didn't even look at it. He says that dogs were his dad's thing and he didn't want to share that with anyone, because his dad and him used to raise dogs together."

"Oh my gosh"

"So I figure if he let you get a puppy and then have a paint war and then well ya know movie night and the kiss... you must mean something to him."

"Really?"

"mom that's enough!" he says. I look to see that he had been standing at the door the whole time.

"But she does!" she said.

"mom it's over goodnight" he storms out. I run after him.

"Matt!" I say.

"What! What do you want?!" he spins around and yells at me with an emotion undetermined in his eyes and tears in his eyes.

I cower at being yelled at.

"Please don't yell" I whisper and tears fall. I felt like I was being beaten again. I felt like the belt was about to come down on my back.

"Why? why should I not yell?!" he hisses.

"Please don't yell! No don't hit me please!" I cower like I was back at home and my dad was going to hit me.

Suddenly his face turns to understanding. He still has tears in his eyes but he rushes to my side and carefully wraps his arms around me.

"Shhh, no one will hurt you. I'm sorry for yelling, please shh, I promise nothing will hurt you. Your dad's not here he can't hit you." he says.

I cry and sob loudly. He runs his hand through my hair and kisses my head.

I cry more and he just hugs me.

"Please it's okay I promise Alyssa it's okay" he hushes me.

He wraps his arms around me. I breathe and he kisses my nose.

"I'm so sorry, I would never hurt you I promise I didn't mean to yell I forgot I'm sorry please forgive me I swear no one will hurt you as long as I'm here" he says.

I wrap my arms around his neck and lay my head on his chest and listen to his heart race.

His mom walks in.

"Oh honey I'm sorry." she says.

"Mom, it's okay, she's just having a break down. I yelled at her. like an idiot. and she had a break down.from her memories, I've got her it's okay." he says as he strokes my hair. Several times in middle of his sentences he pauses to kiss the top of my head or the tip of my nose or my cheek.

"Is she okay."

"She's unharmed. as long as I'm around no one will touch her. And there is to be no yelling period!" he says sternly.

"Are you sure?"

"I've got her" he says.

His mom finally leaves and I'm beginning to relax. Matt lays his head on mine. "you alright?" he asks.

"Thank you Matt, I'm so sorry for having a breakdown."

"Shhhh don't apologize to me."

I wiggle my way into his lap and lay my head in the crook of his neck. He kisses my cheek and I smile to myself.

"My mom was right ya know." he says.

"About what?"

"You are very special to me."

"How so?"

"Your amazing and I have this sense that tells me not to ever let you get hurt. It kills me to see the pain in your eyes."

I move my head and kiss his chin.

"Ready for a movie?" I ask.

"Sure"

I run and find a movie. I pick out the movie Olympus has fallen.

I put it in the DVD player and then run back to Matts bed and sit beside him. We lean against the wall at the head of the bed. He wraps his arm around my shoulders and I put my arm around his back. I lay my head on him and he smiles.

As the movie starts he pauses it.

"Huh Matt?" I ask.

"I forgot to give you something. He pulls something out of his pocket and then latches the necklace behind my head. It is a small key that has a cross and a heart dangling off of it.

Then his kisses me. "thanks Matt." I whisper.

He drops his arm down to my waist. I snuggle into his side and he begins to play the movie again.
