Chapter 24:

Four days later: Luke's POV:

I pace the room I had not slept the whole time Alyssa had been here. I walk to her bedside and caress her cheek.

"I love you Alyssa. You can wake up now." I say.

I intwine our fingers and give her hand a squeeze. I stand there for a moment before pulling my hand loose. When our fingers barely touch and I am turned away I hear her voice.

"Stay" I turn and look at her. Her soft blue eyes have opened and she looks at me questioningly.

"She's awake!" I scream. a nurse shuffling by come in "I'll get the doctor." the nurse says. I smile and hug Alyssa carefully. She runs a hand on my neck and then a thumb under my eyes.

"You haven't slept Luke" she says.

"No I was worried about you. I couldn't sleep."

"How long have I been asleep?"

"Four days."

"I'm so sorry. I fought it as hard as I could"

"Alyssa don't be sorry, your okay. I love you." I say kissing her temple.

"What did the doctor say?"

"Broken rib, and your back will heal."

"Thanks Luke" she says.

I smile down at her.

The doctor comes in exited.

After another two hours of paperwork I take Alyssa to my house. She sits in the middle with her arms around my neck and her head buried in my shoulder.

When we pull into my house she looks confused.

"This isn't our ranch"

"I know, it's mine. I want you to stay with me and my parents now."

"Parents I thought your dad was dead"

"He is, mom is engaged." I say.

She nods and then hugs me.

"I would love to."

Then she sees her horse in the pasture.

"TRIGGER!" she screams. The horse runs to her and nuzzles her shoulder. She kisses his nose.

"I missed you boy" she says.

"Hey what about me?" I ask.

She laughs and then leaps to me. She hugs me and kisses my lips.

I smile when we break apart and kiss her jawline.

"I missed you too" I say. She laughs and I pick her up bridal style.

"Come meet my mom and my step dad" I say. She nods.

Alyssa's POV

We walk in and Luke sets me down on the ground.

"Good morning mrs. pierce, morning mr. pierce" I say.

"Morning Alyssa. It's so nice to meet you." his mom comes and hugs me. I nod "thanks you too."

"Thank you for the help at the place"

"Yes ma'am anything for my Luke." I say leaning my head on his arm.

He moves so my head is on his side and his arm drops to my waist.

"You brought my wife and kids home. Thank you" his dad walks towards me but I flinch away.

"I'm sorry I was abused by my father, I can't help it." I say carefully.

"That's fine. Thank you." he says. I smile at him.
