The next morning I wake up and Matt is on the couch and I'm on his bed.

I stand and grab some of my jeans and a white tank top. Then I sit on the edge of the couch and look at Matt. His floppy hair is over his face.

I take my hand and rub it over his cheek. I push his hair out of his face and then I grab a pair of his old boots and go for a walk. I go into the barn.

I see the black horse that we rode the day before. He reaches his head out and nuzzles my shoulder with his soft nose.

I giggle and hold up my hand that he rubs his nose on.

"He likes you." someone says. I jump and turn around.

"Oh, hi Matt." I say.

"Hey." He smiles.

"Umm, did I wake you up leaving?"

"No, you woke me up when you sat on the couch with me."

"I'm sorry."

"No, it's fine. your hands are really soft by the way." He says.

I begin blushing.

"Ya know I don't blame old Track for liking you" he says.

"Thanks." I laugh.

"Let's ride into town after you dye your hair and get you registered for school in two weeks and get some food? and a job?"

"Really?"

"Yeah"

Without much thought I hug him and he hugs me back picking me up on my tip toes.

"So I get to stay?" I ask.

"Yeah!"

"I can pay rent"

"No it's okay."

He still has me in a hug.

A small car drives up.

A blonde preppy girl gets out.

"What are you doing with her?" the girl hisses at Matt.

"She's living here, her uh parents died in an accident."

"Whatever, on to the next subject, what did I tell you about wearing those shirts! They smell like horses! Those are filthy animals I don't even know why you still have them!" she growls.

"Babe I told you, I'm at work and I have to wear these shirts!" Matt growls back.

Babe? That's his girlfriend?

"Don't babe me!" she hisses. Then she walks up to me and grabs the end of my hair "oh honey don't waste your time you can find someone better than Matt, all he cares about is his family and horses!"

"Why don't you leave Matt alone and don't touch me!" I hiss then I put my hands on her shoulders and push her down.

"Ugh you got my boyfriend jeans dirty!" she cries.

"Leave" I hiss.

"Bye Matt don't call, oh and whoever you are, don't touch me again or I will call daddy." she says then she gets in her fancy car and leaves.

"Oh my god I'm so sorry I didn't know she was gonna break up with you." I stutter.

"Thank you!" he says.

"What?"

"I needed a way to get away from her but had a large fear of her father."

"Whose her father?"

"the mayor."

"Oh."
