Safe wings

Chapter 15:

I wake up and Izzy is poking me. I giggle "yes?"

"I'm hungry."

"Well then let's go eat!" I spring up and then grab her hand. We skip down the stairs and into the kitchen. I fix some toast. "well someone's cheery this morning." someone growls behind me.

The voice sends shivers down my back. Izzy freezes at my side.

"Izzy run now! Get Josh." I demand just loud enough for her to hear. She runs up the stairs. Lucas comes through the door and as soon as he sees my dad and the fear in my eyes he runs to my side.

"Who is this?" he asks.

"My..dad." I whisper.

"Leave her alone" he says. I grab his hand.

"Stop Lucas! he will hurt you worse than he would hurt me please stop." I beg.

"Got a little boyfriend ey' precious." he says I can smell the beer from here. Matt comes sleepily down the stairs and he turns to Matt.

"Who is this?" he asks.

"Matt run." I say.

"Who are you and what are you doing here?" Matt says.

"Matt this is my ummm father" I say carefully.

Matt's eyes go wide and instantly he's come beside me and Lucas they shove me behind them.

"Why are you here?" Lucas demands.

"To get my daughter." He says that as Izzy leads Josh down the stairs. He sees Izzy and then grabs her and carries her outside. Instanly I run and vault onto his back. He won't do this to her. I scratch and hit him.

He drops Izzy and knocks me into the dirt. He yanks a pistol from his waist and then yanks me up. He hold me in a choke hold and puts the gun to my head. Instantly Lucas Josh Matt and Izzy freeze.

"Anyone moves this bullet goes through her brain."

Lucas's blue eyes flash with pain, guilt, and worry. Matt looks with hate towards my father and Josh stands statue still. Suddenly I hear a mad scream from a horse. I see trigger and he busts his stall gate open. He runs out and grunts.

Lucas looks from the horse to me. The horse snorts and then rears. He runs towards me. He rears just above us and my dad stumbles backwards. I fall to the ground just as Trigger comes down. He lands right next to me. I stand up and he stands still.

He lowers his head and I jump onto his back. He stands perfectly still. I hear sirens and then kick him We race away.

I realize that this horse saved my life.

After about an hour I ride home. I see Lucas standing on the porch waiting for me.

Josh holds Izzy.

When Lucas sees me calmly ride trigger through the gate he runs towards us. I jump from triggers back and run to Lucas's open arms. I cry into his shoulder.

"Thank you Lucas." I say.

He kisses my forehead.

"I would do it a million times for you." he says.

Matt walks up.

"Hey guys I'm sorry. If you guys want to date or whatever it's fine with me. I umm, just want my best friend back." he says. I look at Lucas and then let go. I kiss Lucas's cheek and then walk to Matt. I hug him.

"Guys i'm sorry I don't know what to do. I love you both. I don't want to have to choose between you." I say. Matt lays his head on mine.

"Then don't."

"How?"

"Choose Lucas."

"But..."

"Just do it" then he let's go with a kiss on my cheek he gets in his car and leaves. I sit down on the ground and cry.

Lucas walks up behind me and puts his arms around me.

He wipes the tears away with his thumb. "It's okay I'm here for you." he hushes.

Trigger stomps impatiently and I see Austin come outside.

"Gotta go" I whisper. I stand and run to the barn with trigger following like a puppy.

I grab a lead rope and halter. I walk back outside. Trigger still follows.

He puts his head down and I rub his face. I slip the halter on and then attach the lead rope. He stands perfectly still.

"Good boy Trigger." I say. I run and vault onto his bare back. He stands still. I click my tongue and he walks forwards. Everyone stares at me in amazement.

I run him into the ring and he sees some jumps.

"Oh silly boy no." I say. He pushes his head towards them and I laugh. He carefully jumps over the first one. I smile. "good boy." I say as I pat his neck.

Austin walks up to the fence. I lead Trigger to him.

"How stupid are you?" he asks.

"What?"

"That horse is crazy."

"He doesn't look crazy he looks like a calm gelding."

"I Will get you."

"I want to see you try to lay a hand on me with trigger around." I say.

Uncle Austin begins to slap me but Trigger snorts and paws the ground.

I laugh. This time Austin does slap me. Trigger rears up and knock him down.

I hold on.

"Im going to have that crazy horse killed!" Austin yells.

"No!" I scream.

I kick Trigger and we race into the mountains. After a while we seem to be lost. I lay my head on Triggers neck and cry.

"Go home boy." I whisper. he begins to slowly walk. when we reach home I put him in his stall and then climb into a corner full of fresh hay. I lay down and he nuzzles my cheek.

"Night Trigger I love you too." I say. He whinnies and then goes back to eating. I fall asleep knowing I was safe with my horse.
