Safe wings

Chapter 26:

After a while of riding I ride back to Luke's. The police are gone and his mom is in the kitchen crying.

"Mrs. Pierce?"

"Oh my dear! Are the boys with you?" she says.

"No, I am so sorry, Luke was just protecting me" I say.

"No, my husband was out of line, and he was with your dad."

"Wow"

"You can stay here. Luke will turn up eventually. I'm so sorry."

"Ma'am they have bounty hunters out for us if I know my parents." I say quietly.

She looks up as someone knocks on the door.

We open the door to see a boy with crutches.

"Matt?" I ask amazed.

"What are you doing here?" he says.

"I can ask you that"

"I need to talk to Lucas"

"Matt dear your brother isn't here."

"Brother?" I ask staring at her.

"He didn't tell you?"

"No!"

"Matt is Luke's twin."

"What?!" I scream.

"Alyssa I'm sorry."

I yank my phone from my pocket and text Luke.

I realize it is 12:00 a.m. The back door opens. I run to it and see Luke, Josh, and Trevor standing there.

When Luke sees me he opens his arms and I run into them crying into his chest.

"Alyssa what's wrong?" he asks quietly.

"Everything's twisted Luke." I say.

Suddenly his mom and Matt appear in the room.

"Matt?" Luke says tightening his grip on me.

I yank from him.

"Brothers? Twins? Police? All in one day!" I scream.

"Alyssa wait!" Luke says grabbing for my arm but I yank away and run to his room.

I lock his door and flop onto his bed. I pull the covers up to my head and sob into a pillow.

I'm drift asleep crying myself to sleep.

I jolt awake at the feeling of someone climbing into the bed.

"How did you get in here?" I groan.

"We have keys Lyssie."

"Don't call me that."

"Why?"

"Because Lucas you weren't completly honest with me.

"I'm so sorry Alyssa please forgive me" he says. I roll over so I face him.

"Why?"

"Listen Matt chose my real dad and left when he died. he went to live with another person I don't know who. Then he ended on your parents team. and I didn't know the police were coming I had to run." Luke says.

"Well what do you want me to do? I can't run anymore and I don't know what to do" I say honestly.

He pulls me into his side.

"Trust me."

"Last time I trusted you I ended in the hospital and running from police."

"I'm sorry!" he says.

"I'm too tired to fight Luke"

"Then don't" he says kissing the top of my head.

"Luke!" I laugh. He smiles and wraps his arms around me.

"Trust me?"

"I trust you" I say before slowly falling asleep.

I wake up early in the morning and I decide to get back at Luke. I roll over and walk into his bathroom. I find my tank top and slip it on. I set and alarm and set it in Josh's room.

Then I climb into the bed while Luke groans "please be still." he says.

"Relax I'm coming back" I say. He smiles and pulls me back to him. His chest is bare so I lay my hands on his chest and rub my fingertips on it. "Please stop!" he growls.

"Okay okay" I say. He pulls me so close my body is touching his and his arms are wrapped around me tightly. I kiss his jawline and then bury my head in the crook of his neck.

"Night Luke"

"Goodnight" just then Josh's alarm goes off and I hear him groan. I hear him coming into our room to wake us and he stops in the door.

"Lucas what the hell are you doing with my sister!" he growls.

"Huh?" Luke says. I hold in my laughter but as I lay back against the pillows it's impossible.

"I mean why is my sister not wearing clothes?!" he says.

I burst out in laughter. "what the hell?" Luke asks.

"It's a tank top Josh relax!" I laugh and Luke shakes his head at me.

Josh growls at me "I don't want you in Luke's room at night I don't trust him and I don't trust you. Ya know what why don't you go back to uncle Austin's"

"What?!" I say.

"Go back! You have no parents so I'm in charge now" he growls.

"Josh it was a prank" I yell.

"No you were in the bed with a boy!"

"So it's not like we were doing anything!" I say.

"Why can't you listen! Do something right for once and go back to Austin's! And don't get attached to Luke he's leaving in a month" josh screams.

I run from Luke's room. "Your just like dad Josh! You hate me! Dad always screamed at me and insulted me before beating me so what's next are you going to beat me!" I pause before racing down the stairs. Luke runs after me but is stopped by Josh.

"Leave her the hell alone." josh hisses and that's when Luke hits him. I run back upstairs and past the two fighting boys. I see blood from Josh's nose and Luke's lip is bleeding. I find a pair of Luke's jeans and grab his truck keys from them. I grab my phone and then run outside and climb into Luke's truck. I start it and drive off.

I drive for three hours before I find the house. I park the truck and get out at my dad's old house. He is in jail so I am safe.

I run in and find my old closet. I climb into it and sit in a huddle and begin to cry.

My phone buzzes with a call. I hit ignore instantly and lean against the wall.

Another call comes through and I hit ignore without bothering to see who it is.
