Safe wings

Chapter 27:

After sitting and staring at the wall for another hour another call comes through.

It says "Luke's mom"

"Hello?" I decide to answer it.

"Where are you? are you okay?" Luke's voice comes over the phone.

"I'm fine I guess, and I'm nowhere." I say.

"You took my truck"

"I'm sorry Luke."

"I want you back."

"Sorry but I can't."

"Why?"

"Because I cant." I hang up and ignore his calls.

I lean my head against the wall and fall asleep.

The next morning I wake up to the sound of footsteps. I huddle in the corner as the steps get closer. Then the steps leave.

"Josh I can't find her!" Matt calls out.

"She has to be here my truck is here." Luke says.

I stand and creep through the house. I see Luke alone in my small safe room. Since it's upstairs and you can't see in very well I creep up. Luke is crawling into my safe room and then he stands up once he's in. I crawl in silently as he picks up a small picture I had of me as a baby. He stares at it and then looks at the ceiling.

"God, what have I done, why can't we find her? I need her" he groans. I stand and silently walk behind him and say "you didn't do anything, I had to come back." as I wrap my arms around him and lay my head on his back. He stands carefully.

"Alyssa?" He whispers.

"Sorry I probobly sound all foreign it's just the memories" I say softly. He nods before letting his hands fall to mine.

"Don't scare me again."

"I won't." I say slowly.

"Promise?"

"Yeah."

"Good"

"Come home with me."

"I can't Luke, Josh doesn't want us together"

"So what."

"Luke, I don't know what to do." I say softly.

"Come home tonight, and then we can figure it out later okay?"

"Yes Lukey"

He turns and kisses my forehead.

He leads me out and then we go downstairs.

"Found her guys!" he yells. They come into the room and stare at me with my head on Luke's shoulder.

Josh begins to hug me and Luke tenses.

"It's okay Luke, he's my brother" I say softly.

Luke releases the tension.

Trevor walks up and hugs me. Then Matt walks up but Luke quickly pulls me behind him.

"Matthew if you touch her I swear to god those crutches won't be all you need." Luke growls.

"Chill Luke!" Matt says.

I pulls from Luke's grasp.

"Shhh, Luke he won't hurt me." I say softly.

I quickly hug Matt and Luke glares at him.

I then step back to Luke and lay a hand on his arm.

"I'm okay Lukey." I say softly laying my head on his shoulder.

"Let's go" Luke growls under his breathe.

I walk out to his truck and toss him the keys. I sit in the middle seat and he drives.

He is still tense so I lay a hand on his leg.

"Luke I'm here. it's okay!" I say softly brushing my lips on his ear.

He glances at me.

"Alyssa please, I can't let you near Matt, I don't trust him."

"Luke I'm fine." I kiss his cheek and move his hair from his face. I let my hand linger in his hair.

His blue eyes are sparked with anger.

I lean against him.

"Please trust me" I say.

"Fine Alyssa, but when you get hurt I may not be here to stop it, I'm leaving for college in 29 days."

"Crap, I'll be alone huh?"

"Not for long, after two weeks I can come back."

"I guess I have regular school huh?"

"Yeah." Luke says.

I turn on the radio and begin singing softly. Luke sings along with me and I stop to listen to him. After a while he stops.

"Sorry" he says.

"Luke! No it's amazing! please sing for me." I say.

He kisses my head "yes darlin."

I smile up at him.

"Thanks"

"Welcome"
