*Chris' POV*

"Kolfinna? Kolfinna, darling can you hear me?" I was sitting on the ground outside, holding Kolfinna's limp body over my lap. "Darling if you can hear me, grip my hand." I said, putting her hand in mine. I waited a few moments before a tight squeeze came from her. I let out a sigh I didn't know I'd been holding in. Brushing her hair away from her face, I lifted her head in my arm. I sat with her in silence for a little while before I noticed movement. Her eyes began to flicker open and she made small groaning sounds.

"Damn, what happened?" She whispered, bringing her hand to her head.

"You fainted." My mom cut in. "Gave us all such a terrible fright. One second you were alright, the next second you were about to hit the cement." Kolfinna's eyes widened.

"The baby, Christopher, did I land on the baby?" She began panicking. I quickly shook my head.

"No baby, you didn't land on the baby. You landed on your side. The baby's fall was cushioned. To be honest, I'm much more worried if you got hurt. I know the baby didn't." I replied.

"I don't feel like I'm hurt. I scraped my elbow a little bit, but that's about all." She replied, looking at her stinging elbow. Right as she said that, I noticed the color crimson coming from the back of her head. I knew my eyes got a little wider, but I didn't want to scare her so I just picked her up and tried to be as gentle as possible.

"Alright, baby, I'm gonna take you into my bathroom and we're gonna clean you up." I said, walking up the stairs.

"Christopher, I just scraped my elbow." She replied, looking at me as if I were a little bonkers.

"No, darling, you cut your head. And I honestly don't know how bad. I don't know if it was just from the cement, or from a gravel rock. So we're gonna get in the bathtub, and I'm gonna check it out alright?" Her eyes grew and she nodded, burying her face into my chest.

I plopped her down into the bathtub and ordered her to strip while I got what I needed. She'd gotten bigger in the stomach region, so I'd have to be extra careful not to put her through too much stress. When I saw the back of her head, it was worse than I thought. Crimson blood soaked her white locks, causing it to stick to her head. I knew the cut was bad, and probably deep. I grabbed the first aid kit and brought it over. She was fully naked now. I filled the tub up halfway with warm water, telling her to slowly lean back. The blood plumed out on either side of her head, and she made a noise that involved searing pain. I pulled her head back up and the blood was still running.

"Okay, I won't lie to you. The cut is really bad. We can either do this the human way or our way." I spoke fast.

"I don't care! Just make the pain stop!" She squealed. I threw the first aid kit over near the sink.

"Alright, take a deep breath...and hold." I quickly sunk my fangs into her cut, receiving a scream from Kolfinna in return. I released my cure into her cut, then pulled away from her. The cut began pulling the skin back together, leaving a dainty white scar. She moaned and her muscles relaxed, her breath releasing. After a dominate cures his mate, she is in the uttermost state of Euphoria. It's the sensation of being high on LSD's, or reaching the ultimate climax. I kissed her neck tenderly, and began to undress myself. I locked the door, then sank into the warm water behind her, massaging her shoulders as I kissed her neck. Her moans were soft, quiet, and she didn't object when I continued the process a little lower. I massaged her right breast, taking the nipple in between my fingers and rolling it while slightly pinching down. Her back arched and her shoulders pushed against my chest, laying her head on my left shoulder. Her hands held onto my thighs, her claws digging into my skin.

"Christopher..we can't. The baby..." She drifted of as I left love bites across her shoulder.

"You're right. We won't." I whispered, nuzzling up against her warm throat.

"Thank you Chris." She whispered, holding my hands above her stomach. I felt the baby kick and I couldn't help the smile that came across my face. I know I said I never wanted kids, but she was honestly changing that side of me. I thought I'd hate the idea. I honestly thought I'd turn out like my father and hate the child. But being with Kolfinna, makes me feel like I could change, I could be a better man.

~time lapse~

*kolfinna's POV*

As we laid in bed, side to side, I couldn't help but remember the things Chris' mom told me this morning. Chris had had a mate before me. And somehow she had been killed and he thought it was all his fault. It made me wonder, how long were they together? What caused her sudden death? Why was Chris so unhappy? And why hadn't he told me? With his arm draped above my head, I had my body pressed firmly against his. His eyes were shut, but I could tell by the way he was so tense that he was awake.

"Hey Chris?" I whispered.

"Yeah darling? What's wrong, is the baby kicking too hard?"

"No, no not at all. I was just wondering.."

"Yes?"

"This morning, when your mom and I were talking and I fainted..we were talking about you. And then she mentioned Carlie." I peaked up at him. He had this blank look across his face, like he hadn't heard what I said. "Chris, who is she?" I asked quietly.

He just laid there for a few minutes, silent. He refused to look at me. Before I knew it, he was on his feet and filing through his closet. He emerged with a black shoebox, and a blanket. He tossed the box on the bed in front of me, old photographs and small items falling from it. He grabbed his pillow from off the bed and began walking towards the door.

"Wait. Chris, where are you going?" I whispered, looking at his back. He stopped and looked at me from over his shoulder.

"Downstairs. I'm sleeping on the couch. I can't sit here and watch you look through those. It hurts me too much Kolfinna." He replied, before walking out, shutting the door behind him.

And that's where my search for answers began.
